Good news, bad news

I have no doubt that you are correct. I am shocked that she is making such an immediate impact. I would have expected her to build the program over time but I never thought she would be able to bring in top players as quickly as she is. She's doing a great job any way you want to slice it.

Perhaps she's just a refreshing change from Mulkey for kids who want to stay in Texas to begin with.

I hope that Sherri is down there recruiting the top Texas recruits right along with Aston and telling them it isn't far at all to Norman.

I coach and live in the DFW area.Everybody in the DFW area by and large really like OU program. It is a puzzle why more kids don't go to OU.I spoke with a recruit(let's say she is tall2014) going to farthest north school in the big 12 .She just decided to pick another school. OU is probably 2 hours drive from her home.Chad is here in the area alot and talk with alot of kids.Sherri ultimately pull all triggers.

Do you think it would make any difference if Sherri sent a different assistant to recruit that area?

Chad is good but Sherri has to be in the area.I have never seen her at any Dallas tournament or at any school in Dallas. The head coach being there watching make a kid know it real.I have not seen her at Duncanville , not Heart of Texas .Not Big state flava or Super 64.I have seen her at th Battle of Boro in TN.

Yes I see a lot head coaches. They show up during all viewing period. Preseason
Viewing period.december viewing. April viewing and July.

Recruiting 101...actually no. The prerequisite to Recruiting 101 surely requires the head coach to make an appearance at the NCAA sanctioned tournaments where the top 25-50 players are competing. The higher the recruit is rated, the earlier you make your appearance and have your assistants follow-up, invite the player to your elite camp (if you have one), get them on your campus, act like you care about having them in your program. There are lots of top tournaments going on at the same time, but that's where the strategic planning comes into play...which player is most urgent to recruit. And yes, it definitely requires crazy travel arrangements and teamwork amongst the coaches. But that's why they get the big bucks! :-) Well some of them.

It's difficult to understand why Sherri wouldn't want to be there with the other coaches. As you said, that let's recruits know that OU's interest is real.

You're absolutely correct. The head coaches are always at the major tournaments in April & July where the top recruits are playing...running from one court to the next to make sure the recruit(s) see their school's logo on their shirt/jacket/hat. The head coach will usually send their assistants to the high schools because the season's run concurrent with a longer season for the college...the reason the head coach is not usually out on the road.

Sherri did have a busy summer with USA basketball, Maybe this time around will be better. OU could be a top 3 team in the big 12 next year, I'm sure Sherri knows she needs to get in on the top 25 kids again and there's a lot of talent left in the 2015 Texas class.

Not sure what you mean by the part of your quote which I highlighted -I could take that to mean a couple of things. Enlighten me, please. :)
