Picked on by the fan boards and media. He was Really wearing his Orange undies today, lol. Saying Smart maybe flops a little - I about spit out my coffee. What a homer. Also talking about how brutal the fans are especially the KU fans. What a wennie !!!!!!

Dougie also said he wasn't sure who was the better team between osu and OU the other night because of the way the game was called???

I'm not even sure what he's getting at, but I'm guessing he think the pokes got robbed by the refs at Norman.

That's a standard thought by pokes EVERY time we beat them in ANYTHING! They must have a class at osu on that subject that everyone is required to take!

I'm no Gottlieb apologist, and I didn't hear what he said, but I do think the officiating was over the top on both sides that night. Any contact was a foul and the flow of the game was terrible, so I see what he was saying. I think the two teams are fairly even outside of OU's coaching advantage, which is massive.

OU has a better post player in Spangler.

I'll be honest, Smart isn't the best example to use in that game. He absolutely doesn't know how to play fundamental defense. He could easily have been called for 10 plus fouls had the officials not chosen to completely swallow their whistles in the second half. Hell, dude actually committed 3 OBVIOUS fouls in the first 5 minutes of the game and only got called for 2.

That's a very astute assessment, Nick.

Yea I was speaking about the game more generally. It was choppy with no flow due to overall touch fouls. I still think the better team especially better coached team won. Smart is a whole other matter. He's a hacking, flopping, whining, chubby, average player. His NBA ceiling is maybe getting on a 2nd unit as a back up PG, but only if he loses a lot of weight. Last year I thought all those things about him were true (sans average) but he's good enough to want on OU. Not anymore. Want no part of him.

I agree about Smart. I just don't see what he is going to do in the NBA. Maybe I will be wrong but I sure wouldn't use a lottery pick on that guy. I would trade down before I used a high draft pick on Smart.

Smart translates to Raymond Felton in the league. Lottery pick is a mistake for whatever team takes him.

I'm not sure where Smart translates in the NBA. He's not a good enough shooter to be a guard. Hasn't shown the consistency to be a point guard. He can do some things well offensively. But I'm not sure he'll ever be a starter in the NBA.

I'm sure that when he threatened to leave ESPN for CBS, ESPN said "Let us help you pack up your office. Can we pay for your airfare and moving costs?"

Since OU games usually don't get picked up by CBS, I have been blessed with getting to never see or hear him again :)

Someone will take a chance on him, but he is well outside the top 5 now.

Agreed. Still top ten, but definitely on the outside looking in as a top five player right now. His poor shooting and potential to be a problem in a variety of ways have pretty much sealed his fate.

I think it's a class they require to get any degree from OSU. I'm sure they have a degree program up there in "hating the cheatin' gooners...."

Agree, but I"m not sure he is even lottery.

He won't be if he continues on the same shooting performance and behavioral path. If he makes good on his recent threat to retaliate for what he perceives as other players taking "shots" at him, he may be lucky to go in the top 20.

Admittedly, I'm no fan of Marcus Smart. But I still think he is an immensely talented player who could have a productive, profitable career at the next level. I think he began to buy into the early season hype, and rightly so. Every television commentator and print reporter in the country was singing his praises for weeks on end. That changed when his shooting from the perimeter went south again, and the officials stopped falling for his flops as often as they did in the early portion of the season.

A mature coach would have taken him aside and brought him back to earth, especially following the tantrum he threw on OSU's bench a couple of weeks ago when he reportedly left the playing area. Unfortunately, we know why that didn't happen.

Supply of good picks is solid this year, but not so deep that Smart falls out of the lottery.

there's still time left for him to improve his declining stock. there's also time left for osu to lose even more games and fire ford

You're right, he's too good to fall that far. I was exaggerating the impact of playing poorly, combined with a behavior of late that could cause a NBA GM to stop and think before shelling out a lot of money.

I don't think there is any question that he has hurt his stock since the start of conference play. He's no longer being talked about as a top five pick who could be the POY this season.

Obviously, there's still time for him to redeem himself if he sets his mind to it. I'm just not sure he's willing to do that when he seems to be blaming everyone but himself for his problems.

Listening to Dougie just now on the radio and I had to laugh AT him again. He said he thought it was much more likely that OSU would go 5-0 when Smart comes back. Does he know they play Kansas in that span, LOL?
