Grandstaff

This isnt just a dad thing, there were stipulations in place that Austin didn't live up to regarding his studies and the team and coach Kruger.

Didn't meet up to his part of the bargain

Lon is so experienced and positive, his players have a good attitude and give 100%.
If you do not buy in then you have to go. It is pretty simple.

Wow. Didn't read the board for a few days and this happens. Hope the kid can get his life back in order. Too bad his dad seems to be such a problem.

Good. A big part of Kruger's success has been the culture of the team. We've achieved by having folks like Osby and Cousins and Heild who are hard workers that get things done. If Grandstaff can't live up to that, it's better he is gone now. I don't want to re-hash old debates, but Capel really let the team's culture get away from him and I think it shows Kruger's experience that he knows it's better to lose a player than lose the culture.

Sampson was like Kruger as far as culture is concerned. If they didn't buy-in to what he wanted they were gone and that's how successful programs stay successful over the long haul because ultimately the program is more important than a single player.

This is purely anecdotal, but it seems Kruger is a lot more apt at brining guys in that will buy in than Sampson was.

A lot of Grandstaff's perceived immaturity is likely contributed from his father.

Agreed.

Academics is a big part of the current culture. It sounds like Grandstaff was was coming up short in this and other areas. I had high hopes for the young man, but better to find out now .. before he ever played a minute at OU.

I wish him well. I hope he is learning lessons from all this and excels in college and on the court somewhere, eventually.

I hope his short stay on campus does not damage OU's APR. That is a strange calculation.

OU's APR will be fine for some time since OU had an entire class graduate.

Yes!

I would rather have a 3* true freshman who buys into what Kruger's program is all about than a 4* with attitude issues. More minutes for more deserving players.

I wonder if the fact that he's already a father himself has more to do with this.. in terms of oh I can't go to class I gotta watch my kid, etc. This is why it's best to double-bag it if you can.

:facepalm probably not board worthy.

That goes for me too, MsP! I like the fact that players and recruits who have some baggage don't last too long in LK's system.
