How Romero Osby gives Oklahoma hope for the future >>> newsok

Hope he is up for the pressure of being "the guy". Both Ryan Wright and Nate Carter drew a lot of acclaim from teammates and those close to the program during their redshirt years. Its not easy to just come in and dominate. Hope he can do it because its through him that we make it back to the dance imo.

I was thinking the same thing, lot of pressure on this guy.

I don't recall Wright getting this much love in the year he sat out

The thing that scares me, is there are always guys that just straight dominate in practice or pickup with an amazing overall game and athletic ability that never can translate that into a game situation...

I saw several over the years...

A friend of mine that played at OU during the Kelvin Yrs told me that Brandon Fouts was an absolute beast and by far the most athletic player on the team as well as having range and slashing ability when he was at OU...and even though we saw him earn some time he never was a dominant player during a game...

Ryan Wright was touted after we watched his high school videos again and just the fact that he touched the court on a UCLA team that went to back to back Final Fours...i dont know what he was like in practice, i dont really recall hearing that he was tearing it up...of course there was a kid named Blake that was here, as well as Longar...so that probably limited any excitement...

I'm just saying, because we have went back and had a chance to see what he looked like in High School and now hear how he is beating down non athletic bigs in practice makes me hesitent to think he is going to come in and be a 15-20 pt scorer...I kind of view him much like a Juco in the fact that i think he will start relatively slow against good competition (throwing in some nice ball games against low majors) and then possibly by the league or mid way through the light kicks on and he starts to get it...

Being a Leader doesnt happen just in practice, you have to go through some games to become that and he has never been a leader statistically since high school...can be a big burden and just takes time learning how to use that power...I like what i see in him athletically, but like every new recruit and jucos and past transfers, you have no idea what you get until they get some season in an OKLAHOMA uniform...the past doesnt matter...

Also, i havent thought much about the future because i have been consumed with this season...but that last sentence is reallye exciting

Seniors

Osby
Fitz
Pledger

Junior

Clark

and add any decent recruits in there the next two years...thats not a bad veteran cast to have and i would say by that time could be one of the best in the league...There is some solid scoring coming from those 4, all 4 good shooters (assuming with Osby)...just in need of a Point and a few Big men...i am not one that thinks one Center is the answer, i like having several 6'8 guys to interchange...more because finding a true center is almost impossible at this level at a school like OU, but more likely that we have one that steps up out of 3 or 4 that have that size...

We will also have a Sr. in Goff

Worse case scenario is Blair as a SR point.

And really that's not a bad scenario...so i wouldnt say worst case...

The things i question about him are his decision making skills and those are going to improve the more he plays at this level...With that lineup we can get away without having a just pure stud at the Point, and a SR PG with adequate skills like Blair will have should do...

But i do believe you have to have one or the other, either a stud PG or a stud Post if we are gonna start talking about a team that has a chance to go deep in the tourney...without either of those and Blair at point and a decent Big we are probably looking tourney bound 1 and done at best...(again, all depends on how Osby turns out)

We also don't know what recruits Capel will land between now and then as well. A signee like say...Perry Ellis would really bolster the lineup too.

Transfers (Juco and otherwise) are to be taken with a grain of salt, imo.

They are just like any recruit, they have to prove it on the field, court, etc. at the D-1 level.
