I don't care what people say about Kelvin Sampson

No matter who the coach is or was, a few here are football fans 1st 2nd and 3rd and only final 4's and championships make them happy when it comes to hoops. KS was a great fit for OU but he had his haters from the football crowd and the Billy ball crowd. If Jeff gets it right beginning next year, then all should learn to love what you have.

While I don't like the probation situation, I also don't like it when the "Anyone But Sampson" crowd starts trashing the accomplishments of some of his OU teams. I also get a bit irritated, even now, when the talk turns to "Sampson ran off any good player he had (or any such statement)," when with most of those guys there were other issues.

But, I'll be the first to admit that if OU had played Indiana while Kelvin was there, I'd have wanted OU to beat them like a drum, regardless of the coaching matchup. I imagine that many like-minded OU fans felt the same way. On the flip side, I wouldn't be at all shocked if some "ABS" folks would have rooted for TCU or Lamar against OU had we ever played them when Billy was coaching those schools.

Much less hard to endure than the past two years.

You DO realize part of our current problem is the fact that KS put us on probation? Then KS di dthe same to IU. If IU a traditional basketball power is struggling after Kelvingate, why wouldn't OU?.Funny thing is IU has had three straight seasons under Tom Crean who is also a quality coach.

Interesting point.

Part of me wants OU to keep Capel and let him work out the rough patches. Nothing would be more badass than if Coach could turn this thing around and get us back to where we belong.

That's like blaming our current national problems on the last president. That's stupid logic. Everything wrong that ever happens at OU is going to be KS's fault even though he's got nothing to do with the current situation. If we get nailed for the Tiny Gallon thing nobody will blame it on Jeff Capel it'll still be KS's fault. If we win zero total games next year it'll be Kelvin Sampson's fault somehow. Kelvin Sampson isn't our coach now. And the probation we got under Kelvin was light. We didn't start having major problems with the on court performance till Capel got his own players in and started running what he thinks of a system. I think most people still don't know what that system is, but that's when the problem started.

My post was in response to this post:

The last few years of the Sampson era were very hard to endure.

I have no problems blaming any problems we had during Capel's first year or even his second on Kelvin and/or the probation. But Kelvin had nothing to do with WW, Tiny or TMG or any problems we had last year or this year. If you want to compare Tom Crean and IU to Capel and OU today, wait until Crean has been at IU for 5 years.

Not sure why you brought up my quote, but I don't blame Sampson for anything past his time here. Also, Capel brought in Mac D's AA's in WW and Gallon. TMG as well. They could've ended up anywhere, but Capel did a good job of recruiting them and getting them in Norman. Unfortunately, those slobs didn't quite pan out due to lack of heart and whatever else crawled up their lazy, egotistical asses. I wish Cade would've stood up to them and put them in their place. I doubt that would have helped though.

If you are going to blame Kelvin for the current situation then you must credit him for the Elite Eight season and Sweet Sixteen Season. You do realize that not a single player on this year's team was recruited by Kelvin. He has nothing to do with our current dilemma. Capel has failed to take advantage of the Blake Griffin and the Elite Eight Season.

Sampson ruined two good programs. Has nothing to do with his coaching it has to do with his ethics. If he had not done what he did here we would not have Capel or the situation we have now and neither would Indiana. Forget his coaching or his teams he is a scumbag who ruined two good programs one way or the other. He now has a few million in the bank and neither school has a basketball program.

I would hate to hear what you think of the ethics of some other coaches who shall remain nameless.

As I said before, a reasonable person would place blame on Kelvin for things that happened a year or two after he left. But blaming him for things that happened 5 years after he left is ludicrous.

Nick, you were right in your previous post.

Ms. PS is right on the money +1

What on earth did Kelvin have to do with this season? I think this season totally belongs to Capel.

MPS I assume from your reply you are happy with the way KS has handled things. I am not blaming KS for the current situation only starting the downward trend. You really should read posts before jumping to a debatable conclusion. As far as the ethics of other coaches if you want to name them I will be glad to express MHO, and ludicrous is a rapper of some kind.

I'd like to hear you say this to one of his former players, I'm sure they strongly disagree with you.

Ludacris is the rapper

Ludicrous is the word that describes anyone that even faintly blames KS these days or delusional could be used too.

It's funny how KS somehow ruined OU's program...even though we made an elite 8 run and made the NCAA's 2 years in a row after KS left...but this year and last year though...ohh blame that on KS....def not Capel's fault...oh my :ez-roll:

Are you saying the problems did not start when he left here or when he left Indiana? NCAA problems hanging over your head. I never said he could not coach, Capel cannot coach IMHO, but that does not excuse what KS did to this program. Had he gone to Indiana and not done the same thing I would have thought it was a mishap and should have been excused.

Blake Griffin erased everything KS did. That's what I'm saying.
