I don't get it!

I believe he referred to the statement as "moronic."

well it was moronic with the word "only" in there. I was using it more as a hyperbole. The point is that Nick is not a good Rebounder and is out of position the majority of the time. He is undersized and is abused by the opposing team on the boards

It is no coincidence the two best games we played this season against Kentucky and Baylor were games that Nick played significant minutes and led us in rebounding.

He has the size and athleticism to help address our biggest weakness. I get it that his mistakes are glaring but what he brings makes up for them. This is a year of growing pains. His mistakes should decline as he plays more at this level and the game slows down for him.

I wouldn't call 3.7 rpg good rebounding by any stretch of the imagination. C.J. averages 3.1 rpg in 10.9 minutes per game. It takes Thompson 19.1 minutes per game to get that many, almost double the minutes Washington is averaging.

I also don't see how anyone can say that Thompson's 5.0 ppg to go along with his turnovers and miserly 3.7 rebounding average makes up for his lousy defense? The guy couldn't guard me, and I'm older than dirt.

Just admit that Capel made another mistake by signing Nick Thompson. He may be just fine in spot situations off the bench for limited minutes. But he was never a D-1 prospect in the first place, and there is no way he should EVER play 31 minutes in any game. Give C. J. those minutes. He can't possibly be any worse, and unlike Thompson, he will definitely get better with playing time.

There are probably 10 guys on this board that are better than Nick Thompson. And on top of that, I have to see his mug every time I make a post.

Gotta admit you guys are right: Thompson is pretty bad. Let's hope he will improve down the stretch. He's not really undersized, like someone else stated a few posts ago (he's 6-9, I believe). We need all the size we can get in the frontcourt.

i didn't mean undersized with height. more so of weight and how he plays

I don't disagree with you, scrybe. But we don't need a 6' 9" guy who hangs out on the perimeter waiting to shoot threes, and then plays practically no defense on the other end.

I actually had high hopes for Nick early in the season. I was impressed with the way he and Fitz teamed in the high-low at times. But for some strange reason their success was short lived when Thompson moved to the perimeter...I assume at Capel's direction, but don't know that to be true. Since that time, Thompson has gotten progressively worse. Even our match up zone can't hide his deficiencies on defense.

the intimidation factor the nick-animal brings the court every game.

Then why doesn't he always play. The two best games by your estimation are two double digit losses. I guess I don't get that.

He must be a helluva practice player...

Just think about it... he doesn't have to be physical at practice because there is no one to get physical with? Also, nobody on the team really drives the ball into the lane so he doesn't ever have to show off his matador moves.
