I saw a team with no quit yesterday, there were several times throughout the game where they could have thrown in the towel and given up...
What i liked:
Offense-i really liked the ball screens and penetration off of those screens, the team is still coming together and learning the system but you can see they are becoming more comfortable
Cade-I really think this was his best game as a Sooner (offensively), maybe not in the stat line but the big shots and drives he had to keep them going...he has grown this year and i let the first few games cloud my perception of him and do that every year when they play teams that are less talented...players like Cade show up, and he did yesterday...Kudo's man...
Blair-This is our PG, period...our offense and game was under much more control when he was leading the way...Capel is just going to have to find ways to hide his defensive deficiencies because we need him in the game...
Fitz-Big shots and didnt shy from the competition...he missed some open ones too but overall i felt he did well...
Defense-other than the horrid beginning and a few stretches i felt Capel mixed it up well and they bought in, to get better they have to make teams take tougher shots but they are growing there and you can see it...
Toughness-it was mentioned numerous times in the telecast how the game became very physical, i loved how our guys didnt shy from it! Nick Thompson was the center of this and if nothing else he brings an enforcer type attitude to this team that it needed...
Dislikes:
Pledger's 3 at the end of the game when we were down 6 and just needed a bucket...i felt he forced that one and would have liked to see us run some offense, i dont mind that he is the one shooting it but that shot is there anytime during the possession....
Cade's 3 was also a shot i didnt like, but i think we were already down 10 at that point and i saw it coming the minute he touched the ball...still should have worked for a better shot but i cant say i wouldnt have taken the same one...
On the ball defense-this is an area that is improving and you saw that as the game went on, but early Kentucky was getting great shots and hitting them mainly because of the lack of pressure...would like to see more denial off the ball as well...
Clark-i dont think he played badly, but i just dont see that level of play that everyone talked about...he looks like he still doesnt have his legs (not sure how that is possible) and even though i've seen him knock down a couple of 3's i would really like to see him get a few steps in on those shots...he brings energy and this team needs it, he is just so raw it is frustrating...
The Loss-obviously i wanted this team to win, but i picked 76-69 Kentucky...not too far off...
Overall this is exactly the type of game i wanted to see, i wanted to see this young group get behind in a game against a good team to see if we wilted or rose to the challenge...test #1=passed!
Really looking forward to this season and i think the Sooner Nation now has some guys we can get behind and support, hopefully fans can appreciate their effort and solid play as the season goes on...
