I love this forum, But....

The notion that Northwestern is a "mediocre team" is absurd on its face and road games against teams of their quality are really tough. Kenpom, for example, had Northwestern favored to win by 1. USC was a mediocre team. Northwestern is a tournament team we were playing in their arena. That's tough by any definition.

Come on, sperry, you’re better than that. Taking questionable shots or being down to a decent team on the road, is not necessarily a “terrible” performance.

At the time you made that post about Doolittle, Manek, Muni and Freeman had two points combined. CJ had five, well below where he was expected to be in the the first half. Truth is, no one except Odomes was playing well. Why single out Doolittle when you had more “worthy” candidates at that time to pick on?

Doolittle turned it on in the latter part of the second half and the overtime. I’m glad he did, because I’m not sure we would have won that game if he had not made some great plays down the stretch.

Those guys were not jacking bad shots, which is one of the easiest ways to lose games. Doolittle was playing terribly and the team as a whole was performing abysmally. Not remotely concerned if people have an issue with me calling a spade a spade.

Not remotely concerned if people have an issue with me overreacting and behaving as if it's the first sporting event I've ever watched.

Fixed that for you.

No longer read any OU game threads in any sports....all reactionary one play at a time.

Used to get caught up in it....no longer.

Frankly, I want Doolittle to keep putting up the mid-range shots. He was mostly and outside shooter in high school and hit a good number of treys. If he can gain confidence in his mid-range game that will create more drive opportunities.

I don't follow game threads either. Actually I can tell the kind of game we played by looking at the length of the thread. Good game, short thread, up and down game, long thread. Bad game, gigantic thread. Whatever kind of game most of the comments are negative.

Shooting the occasional 3 would be fine. The long 2s are the problem.

Again, at no point was Doolittle playing terribly

Perhaps you were reacting irrationally, or at minimum emotionally

Doolittle is absolutely deadly BTA in pregame warm-ups or in practice shoot arounds. But he has only taken 5 shots BTA this and last year combined after taking 43 as a freshman and hitting 40% BTA.

Impossible? Sorry, but that doesn't fly. Very, very few people, as adults, give free rein to their emotions in their day-to-day lives, giving voice to every heated reaction that flits through their brains.

That's what makes us human -- the ability to control our words and actions and to sort through our thoughts to consider which among them are worthy of sharing with/imposing on others.

Those who refuse to exert that kind of control over their words and actions generally find themselves alone (or close to it), if not incarcerated.

And it's funny how you always ask those who object to the extreme negativity to change, never those who continuously spew bile.

Primarily because I am a realist as opposed to an unbridled optimist. I don't tend to enjoy things I don't see as necessary, but at the same time I treat it like all aspects of my life by taking the good with the bad. The whole reason for a game thread is to express one's opinion at that point in time, where the situation changes by the moment, thus you often get a mélange of cascading thoughts some making sense due to retrospect while others not so much.

I also gave up the live game threads a couple of seasons ago. The junk that's spewed on those threads by the usual suspects is bad indeed. But what's worse is those same posters defending their actions on another thread a day or two later.

I especially liked that "mélange of cascading thoughts" defense.

Just enjoy the banter. Don't take life too seriously.

Who's taking life too seriously, exactly?

Think about how many devoted Sooner fans have publicly acknowledged in recent weeks that they avoid the game threads. I would suggest that those who, after years of watching sports, still haven't learned to enjoy the good (of which we've had more than our share this season) and instead focus only on the negative are the ones taking life too seriously.

I honestly feel sorry for anyone who can find much to complain about--even mid-game--so far this season. If ever there were a time for crimson-colored glasses, this is it. Heck, you don't even need those glasses, that's how great the season has been so far.

Frankly, I'm tired of the complaining about the "negativity" on game threads. Yes, there can be some truly silly comments especially when things aren't going well during a certain point of a game. But this is a really good board with good fans (some more emotional than others). If folks really believe that our game threads are too "negative", then I would suggest you take a gander at game threads on Phog, RuppRafters (Kentucky), or Surly Horns. Our game threads (even when games are going poorly) are extremely docile and benign in comparison....it might give you a better perspective of how good this board really is.

This critique also comes off as a subtle, passive-aggressive assertion that someone who doesn't get upset or frustrated during a game thread is a better "fan" than those who posts their emotions in the moment. The lecturing of how someone should behave on a game thread is getting tiresome. There is a simple solution...if you don't like game threads, then don't read them....just my .02 cents.

I try not to be too *****y...BUT it would be the same if I was at a bar watching it with OU friends..which I dont do up here...its the emotion of the game.

Without the low ya wouldnt have the high..

You just have to know your posters. Some guys are sunshine pumpers. Some guys find new and mind-boggling ways to ***** about officiating. Others take our poll positions very personally. Some give recruiting tidbits that never come to fruition.

Some are absolute idiots.

Sometimes ouleopard or the postman grace us with their presence. Their word is the gospel truth.

I watch the games. I GO to the games. I don't mess with the game threads.

And you can set your watch to this: we'll go through a rough patch and WTSooner will be here snarking away about how right he was about this or that. Anybody seen him? We've won 11 of 12! Be ready!

WTSooner was here earlier this week but he hasn’t posted since November 22, 23 and 24. Our only loss of the season was to Wisconsin on the 22nd. A coincidence I’m sure.
