I love this forum, But....

Here's an idea: We need a thread for certain posters to complain about those who complain about the game threads.

It is very interesting that those who object to the complaints about the negativity on the game threads are mostly those who are mostly negative on the game threads.

Some people just have a negative outlook. Others want to be percieved as experts. Maybe the one that wanted Doolittle benched at Northwestern. Some just like a little controversy.

I only object to unfairness and denigration of the coaches and players, particularly on a personal level.

We have had a good run, but yet have not won against a top tier team. We will have some rough games and lose some. The negative posters will continue to flood the game threads. None that I have seen in this thread have said that maybe they are a bit too negative on the threads.

Yes but no more interesting than the people who complain about game threads mostly don’t post on game threads.

But Is this like math such that if I am negative about people complaining about my negativity I am really positive?

Or maybe they have an opinion? The ironic thing about this whole discussion is that I posted positive comments in the game thread as well. The game thread is full of people reacting to what is happening at a given moment. When things are going well you will see comments of people reacting to the good things happening; exactly the same as when bad things happen.

Well when the opinion is that someone is playing terrible & should be benched and not put back in. Then that same player was the MVP of the game it would be nice to have at least a comment stating something positive about the player that was wrongly bashed to begin with.

I agree with this. We like to think the people we are commenting on the game with are Sooner fans or at least objective fans of the game.

Speaking only negative about some player all the time is disrespectful and puts us "on guard". These kids work their tails off to be part of this program even if they never see the floor and their relatives and friends read these pages.

So if you're going to dish out the negative comments after some bad play then at least have the courtesy and courage to praise the positive ... and with equal ferocity. Otherwise you're just coming off like a jerk with an axe to grind against a player or the team. And that's not constructive for anyone.

I agree cool. I see that you were up very late on Christmas Eve.

Regarding the title of this thread ... I also love this forum, and I wish to offer a heartfelt MERRY CHRISTMAS to each of you.

Whether affable or complaining, objective or biased, we are all engaged in Oklahoma basketball. The fact that we have sought out this board and have stayed here for a long time, means that we at least share a common interest. As a person that is predisposed to sunshine-pumping, I have learned to recognize and appreciate the passion and insight offered by so-called "negative" posters. They sometimes cause me to rethink my point of view.

I have certainly had times when I used this message board to vent my angst and frustration with the basketball program. As an example, I was very negative during the latter stages of the Capel era. While I am not a fan of "personal attacks," I cannot claim that I was/am sinless in making personal attacks at various times. After all, I am only human. I know for a fact that I am not completely objective, and no one is completely unbiased.

When I re-opened this thread this Christmas morning, I was reminded of family members bickering over various topics as they gather for the holiday meal. Too many cooks in the kitchen will do that. Too many drinks in the parlor can have the same effect. It seems that bickering is part of all families, including the family of OU basketball fans. Is this good or bad? I don't know. If there were no disagreements, squabbles and disputes, then the number of written and spoken words by mankind would be reduced by a significant percentage.

This holiday season reminds me to count my blessings, and I have many. I am blessed in so may ways, and I consider OUHoops to be a blessing. It provides information, insight, opinion, humor, and an outlet for angst and frustration. Thank you to those that make OUHoops possible.

May you and your families have a blessed holiday season.
God bless the players, coaches and fans.
Merry Christmas

My comment was that if Doolittle jacks terrible long 2s, he should be yanked. There is a difference between playing poorly and taking atrocious shots. All guys will play bad from time to time, but taking egregiously bad shots is a conscious choice and should not be tolerated. And I'm not walking that comment back at all.

If your point is that long twos are bad shots, then I don't necessarily disagree, but if that's your position, I assume you feel the same way about James because he takes more 18-19 footers than anyone else on the team. I don't love that shot from anyone, but at least when Doo takes it, he is being aggressive, which is exactly what the coaches beg him to do.

Yes it’s the worst shot in basketball, if contested, but then you’d have to yank everyone who takes a long 2 even if wide open. I have a bigger issue with people over dribbling, no defense, or no hustle than I do a guy shooting an open long 2 once in a while.

I’d have to rewatch the game but I don’t think Doolittle took egregiously bad shots that game (he was 7-12).

Certainly a long two is less efficient than a three a step further from the basket. And it should probably not be taken if early in the shot clock. But mid to late in the shot clock they should put it up unless there is someone with a better shot if you get them the ball. Chances are if late in the shot clock it is the best shot you will get.

Shooting is a rhythm thing. Some are very good at the step back to get behind the arc. And every outside shooter should try to develop that shot.

Every player should be aware of where they can shoot the ball accurately from. And then look to get open in those spots and get a shot off in rhythm. If they break rhythm just to get behind the arc they will probably miss a lot of those shots.

EVERY player shoul develp the mid range shot. Far better to pull up for a short jumper or pass off rather than go pell mell to the hoop and force a bad shot and get blocked or get a charge. Calixte has a nice pull up floater and Bieniemy looks like he is developing one. Young was very good at it and also good at knowing when to shoot the pull up or go all the way.

Another thing I would like to see is for McNeace flash into the post more and shoot that hook shot without putting it on the floor.

I couldn’t agree more about Jamuni! He is very effective when he receives the ball in close where he can use his patented baby hook with either hand. He’s not nearly as good from eight to ten feet where he can be double teamed, which all too often results in a low percentage shot or a turnover

Yes & he’s a poor passer out of a double team. He has to go quick off the catch in a good position to be at his best usually.

IMO, Doolittle may be 6'6" but at times he plays as 5'11"..I just don't think he has a lot of confidence in his shot at times.

He’s been doing a hell of a job guarding the post while McNeace has been hobbled. Don’t see how lack of confidence in his shot makes him play smaller.

meh. I think some of you worry far too much about offense.

Just stop! We both know you couldn’t care less about OU basketball, men or women. You’re just here to jerk our chain so you can tell all of your friends how clever you are to stay just shy of breaking board rules. Well, I have been on to the game you’re playing for a very long time.

Doolittle plays like he’s 5’ 11”? You’re not that stupid! This is one of the many deliberate insults you have made about OU players and coaches over the years. Funny how you seem to struggle with finding something good to say. It’s not that hard, especially this year when a team picked to finish 8th in conference surprises everyone by completing the non-con portion of their season with an 11-1 record.

Kristian Doolittle didn’t deserve the insult, especially from you! He filled in admirably when McNeace was on the bench with an injury. I’m not sure we could have won that game if he had not played so well in the latter part of the second half and the overtime. And, you’ve got the nerve to insult him by saying he plays like he’s 5’ 11”?!!!

You’re not that stupid!

Well Ada that is QUITE the gauntlet you have thrown down there. But I am sure he's more than up to the challenge of proving you wrong!!

I am betting he can prove to all of us that he's way more stupid than even you could imagine.
