But to be honest with you and this is sad and ticks me off there is no big hurry because the men's program at OU is so far behind football in the eyes of the ad's office that I just don't think there is a huge effort to move on it. Big donors at OU just don't care as much about bball as they do football. There is a core group of fans like me. But it is just sad the way it is viewed

I wont rip you for that, football is king at OU, anyone who refuses to believe that is only fooling themselves

You saying this sure bodes ill for us in the near and distant future.

Thunder probably has hurt the program with boosters too.

I don't think it's as far behind football in the ADs eyes as you think. There has just been a lot of change in the past 5 years. The mess of the last 2 years plus the Thunder arriving has made the entire landscape change. Add om tje mnew TV network stuff and the AD's office HAS to do their due diligence on men's bb.

I agree to a point. However, what coach has been snagged up that you really wanted? Mike Anderson.......no chance due to Arkansas being his dream job. The Hogs lucked out. Cuonzo Martin......PASS!!!! Mooney......PASS!!!! So far, that's it. The one school we have to worry about is Missouri. Who knows what they have planned. I don't think there is any reason to get all up in arms on the coaching search yet.

Let Castiglione and the search committee do their jobs'. Like you said in another post, they don't want too react to quickly, like last time, without doing more research. Not that Capel was a bad hire, he just didn't seem to fit as time went on.

That is shameful if true, an egregious offense.

I think the reality is OU basketball has a bad perception on it right now from several factors. This is an important hire and there is no need to rush it, especially if the first several candidates have said no.

I think it's ridiculous to be worried about the time right now when we all agree you have to talk to Brad Stevens before you hire a coach. I don't mean back channel either. I mean hear from the horses mouth that he isn't interested. Please spare the he isn't coming line. You will never truly know until you ask.

I agree 100%, I just don't think there is a sense of urgency about the basketball program in general on the University as a whole.

I know I am being dramatic, I know its illogical to say this but I honestly could see the hierarchy of the sports program start to resemble Tennessee before Bruce Pearl. Sheri has done an amazing job building the womens program and has started to get a lot of pull due to it. If this hire struggles we could very well be looking at women's basketball becoming the unquestioned number 2 sport on campus.

Now, that is something to flame away on.

I think they care. But it would be unwise to believe that football is not number one. And IMO should be treated as such. It's the cash cow. It keeps the entire athletic department afloat, so there's nothing wrong IMO for treating it as number one. The only bad would be if hoops is a very distant 2nd. But I'd be surprised if that's the case. I still think all of us who have a level head will be pleased with who they hire. There are those that are set on who they think must be the man, and for them they'll just have to deal with it.

Chewy says no interviews yet, so Joe C. is obviously waiting and doing do due diligence on background checks, etc., talking to other schools, agents, etc.

Good.

I think.

You shouldn't get ripped for having a good opinion. Considering that we're a top 25 all time program, it's an absolute joke how much of an afterthought basketball is here.

It does seem like they're taking their sweet time, which is fine if you are brewing beer, but unless there's a sleeper badass who is about to be introduced, it seems like they're going slowly while good names are being taken off the board.

I also think that we used to be more of a football school with a great basketball program that didn't always get the credit it is due. If this thing doesn't work out well, it is going to look like Chewy says, that we are a football school who really doesn't give much of a rat's ass about its basketball program.

I think that Joe C.& Boren want to have a top notch program, but the debacle over the last 5 years really the last 2 is squarely their own fault, the experiment of hiring Capel just blew up in their faces. So now it's a tough sell, tougher than Joe C.expected..Go Sooners!!!!!

Is it really fair to say we are waiting, or slow-playing this, when we've talked to, allegedly, so many canidates? We'd likely have a coach already if any of our first several options were interested. We aren't waiting, we're struggling.

Sid perhaps you should write a strongly worded letter to Dave Boren

RUBBISH! They want a program that wins just enough to keep the sheep happy and writing checks.

yep. I agree 1000%.

It's like they just want to placate a few people instead of really bearing down on making the program great.
