If Mizzou hires Painter and we end up with a mid-major coach or some asst. coach, I may be done with OU mens basketball.

Wow.

Just Wow.

And to think, some people can't figure out why OU has trouble bringing in great coaches with this type of support.

You are the perfect example of the type of fan we don't need.

First, I doubt any possible coaching hires look at message boards when deciding whether to accept an offer.

Second, Painter is a very good coach. If Mizzou gets him, then you can definitely place them and Tech ahead of us if we get a mid-major coach like Johnny Jones or maybe even Gregg Marshall.

Third, I'm in utter disbelief that Mizzou would be able to hire a better coach than OU, but he hasn't signed with Mizzou yet.

Fourth, I hope I'm wrong and that we get a good coach. If we get a Kruger or Stallings then I think we are headed down the right path.

Fifth...Brett -- you have sources, what are you hearing?

Don't understand the fascination with Painter.

I think he's a good coach. He's done very well at Purdue. We were lucky to beat them when we had the greatest player ever and they had a bunch of soph's and frosh in NYC.

He's the type of coach we need right now. A defensive minded coach who is a good tactician and can recruit the players he needs to win.

I just don't understand why people have trouble seeing this. Sure Mizzou and OU are comparable programs over their history, OU may have the slight edge over the other, but it doesn't matter.

In 2011, Mizzou is the better job...sorry. Solid returning roster, coming off NCAA tournaments, willing to pay upwards of $2mm, no looming NCAA trouble (nothing confirmed on OU, but rumors are out there amongst coaching circles), etc. Their coach left voluntarily, we ran ours off for a reason.

I don't understand the fascination with Painter either. Good coach? Sure. World changing hire? No.

Matt Painter is a top 15 coach, IMO. 7 years coaching - 6 NCAA tourneys - 2 sweet 16s, only 40 years old. OU fans would salivate if Joe could land an interview. Like Camp said, today, March 29th, Mizzou is the better gig.

Painter is a way bigger hire than Pastner or Buzz.

Yep...much bigger. He's had a lot more success and he doesn't have to have top-notch talent to win.

I like Buzz because of his background, but we don't know how he can coach with HIS players.

Pastner's mom still tucks him in at night, so no thanks there, too.

i understand where the OP is coming from, though i certainly wont go to that extreme!

but Painter is legit. idk about top 15, but he's up there. he has the pedigree, he has control of his team, they play ridiculously hard and he definitely gets the most out of them. if MU were to get him, that would be pretty epic on their part. right now on a general and national scale, Painter is much more attractive than Buzz.

then if we strike out on Buzz, Pastner, Tubbs, whomever else has and will be in the fold...it will really sting. it's the big elephant in the room right now, we want something, anything to tell us that we're still relevant. Mizzou going and plucking a really good coach out of HIS alma mater and sustained success would hurt.

Exactly. You said it much better than I ever could. :clap

Seven years as a head coach.

Four times he's been named conference coach of the year.

He's doing something right.

Thats ridiculous... and, he still had a top 10-15 team this year even after losing his best player.

Matt Painter is big time. He is an elite level coach.

Matt Painter has been to a grand total of two Sweet Sixteen's (and never further), and he's a top 15 coach in college basketball? No.

I said he is a good coach. That being said, he's not Coach K. The hype is reaching a fever pitch.
