If Missouri hires Painter and we end up with...

Matt Painter has been to a grand total of two Sweet Sixteen's (and never further), and he's a top 15 coach in college basketball? No.

I don't think he's Top 15 (if you go down the list, you realize how many good coaches there are) but he's a rising star and very young. That amount of money isn't a crazy sum for locking him in long-term.

Top 15 may be a stretch...I didn't look at any list. He's at least on the cusp of that and will be sooner than later. IMO, he's better than anyone we've had on our wishlist so far.

Name 15 current coaches that are more impressive than Matt Painter.

If Matt Painter was a top 15 coach he would not be coaching at Purdue or considering Missouri. Neither of which are even top 25 programs.

I said he is a good coach. That being said, he's not Coach K. The hype is reaching a fever pitch.

Coach K through his first seven years had two NIT appearances, zero NCAA tournament appearances (smaller field back then, but still wouldn't have qualified under today's rules), and was coming off a 10 win season at Duke.

Coach K by the age of 40 had managed to advance to a national title game, so he does have that over Painter. Had Hummel played this year, though, Purdue would have likely been one of the 5-6 favorites to win a title. Not many coaches would lose their best player and likely All American and still win 26 games.

If he were that good he'd probably be on OU's list, right?

He must not feel too strongly about that claim.

I do feel strongly about the claim. I don't feel strongly enough about the subject matter to get into a tit-for-tat about specific coaches all morning.

A. Painter played at Purdue
B. Purdue plucked Painter from Southern Illinois at age 33 in order to have him replace legend Gene Keady.

The only reason he's even flirting with Mizz is because Purdue is having a hard time committing (finances) to their bball program. Sound familiar?

Missouri may not be a top 25 program but they're interviewing a coach we have no shot at getting.

First you used the word "impressive" which means that is a personal choice and you're going to argue anybody's list.

Bill Self
Jim Calhoun
Jim Boeheim
Roy Williams
Coach K
Ben Howland
Tom Izzo
Billy Donovan
Brad Stevens
Sean Miller
Jay Wright
Thad Matta
Jamie Dixon
Bo Ryan
Bob Huggins

This list took me 30 seconds, sure I am missing more.

If Painter goes to Mizzou, Purdue may go after Stallings (Purdue alum), further depleting our options.

Cuonzo Martin wasn't willing to wait for the Purdue job. I doubt Stallings is in love with it, either. OU's probably more desirable than Purdue at this point (probably more desirable than Vanderbilt, too, unless he's factoring in a currently weak SEC vs. a pretty good Big 12).
