I truly appreciate coach Lon's positive approach and all ... but this team is soft.

Way too soft.

Soft to the point of being timid.

In fact they remind me of those old WAC teams. They played fun ball but if you really ground into them they folded. They played Pac-10 ball without the athletes.

I dont think you can play that in the Big-12 of the present and be uber-successful. Yes I know we went to the FF a few years back - but they got on a roll and had some favorable matchups. Same could happen here but we won't ever get over the conference hump.

He’s not developing the talent we have.

Was trae sick?

You're right. We play too soft and we don't fight for the 50-50 balls most of the time. We don't have that one guy like in years past that will get down and do the dirty work and fight for everything on the court. We don't have a Najera or Spangler type of player. They did whatever they could to help the team and right now we don't have that type of player out there. Until we do, it will be tough sledding. Someone needs to step up.

I don't know if Trae was sick. But with all the nasty stuff that is going around, there is more than an even chance that other players will get or already have whatever James had that caused him to miss a game.

yeah, Spangler. good call. we need a spangler really bad.

So Lon didn't coach Cousins & Spangler a few years ago? Or how about Odomes? He's playing with 2 freshmen as his best players who are physically thin & Lattin who's on the lighter side. This is a team based on finesse and scoring so that's how he's trying to play this year.

You think coach K forgot how to coach man defense this year or maybe that his team is better built for zone?

Great coaches play to their teams strengths & try to build up their weaknesses which is what it shows he's doing. Get out of here with this weak crap bc the team is on a skid.

I will give you Cousins but Spangler is a xfer from the Zags.

Well to be fair, our weaknesses look to be getting worse....at least defensively. What I don't understand is how this team could be 39th in adjusted defensive efficiency last year and we are around 90th this year (and headed south). And there is no question that this team is soft/physically weak when compared to other teams in this conference....it's really not even debatable. I'm all in regarding Lon trying to throw the kitchen sink in the attempts to fix our defense.....just haven't seen it yet.

sorry. In the 50+ years Ive been watching college basketball I have seen a ton of skinny kids play awesome defense. defense is played with attitude and effort. we are lacking that.

Other guys are initiating the ball more and making plays on their own. Also they allowed 75 points in a fast paced game. Everyone on the team has gotten better except 2. Doolittle was suspended (out of Lon's control) & Mcgusty is pouting he's playing bad (almost exactly like James last season). Before today they were tied for the tops in the nation in top 50 wins. This team lacks experience & plays in a brutal conference. They were terrible last year and now y'all are upset because they are on a losing streak & it has to be the coach, no blame to the players or just a tough stretch.

Played good defense tonight, incredible defense in the 2nd half.

he came here playing clean-up and jack of all trades. he didnt get that from Lon. it was either innate or he got it from Mark Few.

CoolM, take your own advice and log off for the night. I have failed to heed your advice in the past and posted things I regretted later. This is a crappy loss but it doesn’t mean a whole lot. We lost the conference race in Stillwater, Manhattan, and Austin. We needed to win 1-2 of those to win the conference. We need to work on getting better in all phases because March is the only thing that matters.

Anyone who hasn’t seen our defensive improvement the last few games hasn’t been watching enough. Our offense let us down these past 2 not our defense.

He had it himself, you could see it when he was in HS. But the fact that you say that he might have got it from Few in 1 year but didn't in 4 years of Lon shows your only measure for toughness is misguided.

I’m gonna pin the last two years (to include player development) on the change in coaching chemistry with the loss of Steve Henson.

Good defense? Don’t feed me a sh!t sandwich in the 1st half and a banana split in the 2nd and tell me that’s a well rounded meal. WVa shot over 60% from 3 and 57% overall in the 1st half. My eyes were hurting it was so bad.
