Agreed...but we could use a bit of a headcase like him. He's a super star.

Gonna be hard to stay in front of him, reason why he shoots so many FTs.

He is not a super star.

Maybe an overstatement. He is absolutely a volume scorer, and if that was all he did, I would never have said superstar. But he rebounds (9.5 AVG rebounds per game as a guard), puts pressure on you (1.5 steals per game), and can also pass it (3+ assists per game).

Is he a gambler? well, obviously...he just puts a ton of pressure on you, both offensively and defensively. He shoots 7.1 free throws per game, which is almost 1 more than Osby.

We love NBA JAMaal. The best way to sum up Maal's game is as follows: he'll do something that will leave your mouth agape in amazement, and then he'll do something that will make you shake your head in frustration - sometimes on the same possession.

Regarding the play at Fresno St., if you watch it - more than once, but say 4-5 times in succession, you will notice it wasn't just showboating - it was a smart tactical move... He split three defenders, and by the time they had located the ball (looking for the recipient of the pass), he had flown by them and stuck it in the hole. He talked about the play in the post game presser, and Fish not only allowed it, he condoned it!

A few other facts about Jamaal Franklin:

* He is the only player to lead his team in points, rebounds, assists, and steals - in all of NCAA Div 1 hoops.
* He jumped 7' as a high jumper in HS
* Once, while playing in a pick-up game, he broke his tooth... on the rim.

Anyway, like you guys, we're all counting down the hours until Friday night... and thanks for welcoming us Aztec fans to the board.

I have heard alot about Franklin so I am wondering, who are your #2 and #3 guys? Who do you go to if he is in foul trouble?

We're fortunate in that we went into the season with - according to several pubs - one of the (10?) best backcourts in the country. NBC Sports named us as the 3rd-best backcourt, right behind Mizzou and Michigan.

Unfortunately, our starting PG injured his back before conference play, and our 2-guard, Chase Tapley - who was named by CBS Sports as one of the Top 50 shooters in the country - badly sprained his wrist in mid-Jan. As a result, our starting backcourt played through pretty much all of conference play at well under 100%... and has just recently started to find their groove as a group again.

Jamaal, Chase, and X(avier Thames) are all guys who want the ball in their hands when the game is on the line...

Winston runs the point as well (and so can JJ O'Brien), and along with James Rahon and Dwayne Polee give us three more guards who can shut down an opponent's perimter shooting (we rank 10th in the KenPom ranking for Adjusted D).

To elaborate on the previous answer to your question, Chase Tapley is absolutely our #2 player and sometimes our #1. He is silky smooth, hitting some ridiculous 3 pointers at times and is a complete all around player. Not very athletic but an amazing defender, passes and handles the ball well, and extremely clutch. My favorite Aztec of all time.

Xavier Thames really is our X factor (pardon the pun). He is the floor general, shoots very well from downtown, and creates by slashing into the lane. If he produces, along with our usual contributions from Jamaal and Chase, we usually win.

Guarding perimeter shooters is definitely not one of OU's strengths. I have no doubt you'll get your opportunities for some open looks. It appears each team has a mismatch in their favor since I'm trying to figure out how we're going to limit Franklin living at the foul line. However, I really think you guys will have trouble guarding Romero Osby down low. Our x-factor (to me) is Amath M'Baye. If he can take some pressure off Osby down low, I really like our chances.

Also, SDS fans, if you guys are down 15-20 points with 7-10 minutes to play, don't turn off your television sets...just trust me on this :ez-laugh: . To be honest, I don't think either team will get that big a lead. It really should be a great game that is decided in the final minute. I hope you keep posting for the next 72 hours.

Throwing the ball off the backboard to yourself from outside the 3 point line on the road in the 2nd half of a close game with 3 defenders around you is not a smart move. Athletic move to pull it off, yes.

Not suprised that Fischer condoned it after seeing his Fab Five teams.
