Seems like that might be a pretty good play for Turgeon, get out of the B12 to a better program that puts him in a better spot if/when Self ever leaves KU. Other than hating his guts, I wish OU would have made a play for the guy...fortunately the feeling sounds mutual from his end.

Turgeon will never take the OU job. I have friends close to Turgeon...according to Turgeon, he was offered the job last time but turned it down because OU is one job that if he took, he knows he would never have a chance to coach at KU.

People on this board doubt he was ever offered, so maybe it was the 3rd party reaching out to him and he turned it down, but he had talks with somebody affiliated with OU.

I can't stand him anyway...I hate that entire team. Okay, "hate" is a strong word, despise is more like it. Yes, I am still bitter, we should have a friggin NC banner in LNC.

I'm right there with you. Turgeon is definitely a better coach than I ever thought he would be, but he's a worm, too. I've never liked him.

The only solace I can take is knowing he wasn't on that 88 team that won the NC.

It seems to me he has no chance to coach at KU anway. He and Self are pretty close in age. Self is not likely leaving KU anytime soon. Turgeon will be too old when Self leaves KU.

Unless it is Larry Brown or Roy Williams, I want nothing from KU near our program [yes, I realize that I just said I despised them, but I'm also pragmatic].

Well, I think they should leave our Buzz alone and make a play for Turgeon.

Self loves the NBA and people around Lawrence are very aware of this. Most press people up here seem to think if Brooks ever leaves the Thunder, that Self would be hired.

Self has stated before he considers the ultimate in basketball coaching to be the NBA. I could see him getting bored with KU especially as easy as they seem to win the Big 12 every year, and he could move on.

However, a lot of people say the same thing about Stoops so you never know.

Turgeon was my no.1 choice to replace Sampson. We blew it. Looks like we're gonna blow it again by not getting Marshall. I would put money down that Marshall, Johnny Jones, and Dave Rose are better coaches than Buzz.

We didn't blow it with Turgeon. He won't come here because he was told by KU folks that OU is one of 3 jobs that if he took it he would never be the head coach at KU.

It had nothing to do with something we did.

I actually think he regretted it when after the smoke cleared he was at WSU the next season, but it's worked out well for him.

Besides, I'm beginning to think Tad Boyle was the genius behind the WSU sweet 16 team. He left for Northern Colorado and WSU was returning the bulk of their talent the next year and didn't even make the dance.

If we hire any ex-KU player/coach, Boyle would be my first choice. What he did at UNC was a miracle, as in Bill Snyder KSU type miracle, IMO. He was very good at CU this year.

Sorry, I didn't realize the facts. Bad move on his part then.

I like Turgeon.

His A&M teams are basically the current-day equivalent to the Eddie Sutton/Kelvin Sampson teams of the late 1990s/early 2000s: tough defense, smart team, always in every game, consistently make the tournament, and consistently finish in the top 3/4 of the conference.

turgeon was NOT offered the ou job

Its all semantics big boy. He claims he was, OU claims he wasn't.

No different than a boy asking a girl "would you be interested in going out?". The girl says "no, not interested" and the boy saves face because he didn't ask her out. He just asked if she was interested.
