is the site dying

All twitter is good for is reading celebs.

twitter is what you make of it. it's versatility is what makes it such a successful platform. it is demonstrably false that all twitter is good for is reading celebrities, but if that's what you are interested in, sure, you can do that too

FWIW, should have some recruiting info start to pop up in the next couple weeks. The July open period is upon us and I'll be spending the next 2 weekends in the DFW and the last in KC. OU has 4 open ships for this upcoming year with one accounted for by Henry (will be playing at Redlands in El Reno this year). I'd expect the breakup to be along the lines of 1 guard and 3 posts (I use the post word tentatively as any one of them could be options as a "3" as well).

On the local front, Omega Harris had an outstanding tournament last weekend in the city area. Showed great vision and it was the first chance I had got to watch him run the point in AAU this summer, I'll be watching this weekend and see if he can keep it going against Texas competition.

As someone who reads this board frequently but rarely posts, I agree that this is by far the best OU bball forum there is... So keep up the good work through these slow months.

This.

Plus, the timing of this thread was odd being that it was started during the 124 post responses to the Adrian Peterson arrest thread. The point is, if something is newsworthy, people will post...there just isn't much going on right now.

It wasn't that long ago when I was conversing back and forth in the summer with Brett Favre Jr., about the upcoming season. There is a reason why this board is slow. As a result of JC's poor decisions, the interest level in the basketball program has diminished greatly.

If the administration thought highly of the basketball program, they would not have hired JC to replace 5/6 and the Sooners would not be playing in a 1970s multi-purpose concert venue. Bringing in morons to spin plates at halftime is not going to increase the attendance level. OU's ticket policy does not help matters.

It's a shame OU had to beg Lon in order to pry him away from UNLV. For the excuse makers out there, the Thunder are not responsible for the lack of interest in the OU basketball program. OUHoops should be commended for putting this board together. He gave it his best shot.

I don't think the site is dying. Interest in college basketball is dying throughout the country. The game has gotten ugly. There is a huge lack of fundamentals in the game; players can't shoot, pass or dribble. They are a lot more athletic but that doesn't automatically equate to better basketball.
Attendance is down everywhere. Kansas and Duke are hAving problems now and when they start having attendance problems you something is greatly wrong with the game.
The Thunder has hurt OU and even Osu. I'm not a fan of the NBA at all and haven't been for a long time but this state has got NBA fever.
Interest in OU basketball is at a huge low. Capel was a huge mistake. He had no personality, poor basketball teams (besides the Blake Griffin years) and a major scandal. The attendance policy sucks. LN is not a great venue. Etc...
Lon was a great hire but basketball is so low right now who knows if he can even bring it back.
With all that this site will suffer for it and interest in OU basketball has a huge effect on this site.

I always thought it was you on the tricycle. I was all set to commend you on your talent and to see what you charge for birthday parties. JC's 55th is coming up.

Will somebody tell Boca, SQ/2487 is hiding out over here. I have to give it up to Boca for spanking 87. I miss his meltdowns. I hope BF Jr., does not get upset with me for using the terms SQ and 5/6 in this thread.

Since I'm going to be in Vegas next month, is there a line on the Sooners getting into the dance this year? Is 87 predicting 24 wins for the Sooners this season?

SQ?lol

Traffic and page views for the site were up last season, but posting was down significantly.

Maybe people were just too beaten down and lost hope by the losing to care to post, or they just don't like the posters as topdaug and billyball said above. I can see that. At this point it is what it is I guess, I don't really have the time/energy to deal with it anymore.

I admit that I probably took some stances on moderating the board over the years too seriously, tried hard to please everybody, but have backed off significantly over the past few years. You live and learn.

I am probably going to take the home page down for good here soon. Gave it a shot and it didn't work out like I planned. And now, with two more kids than I had when the site started, I don't have the time to keep up with it in my spare time like I used to.

But I'll still scour the net for OU info/links/stuff to post, and the board will always be here as long as people are posting.

I think a lot of people still read and watch but don't enjoy posting right now because it has been very difficult to find positive things to post about, not everyone enjoys posting negative crap about their school, of course others seemingly live for it.

If you ever need help with anything I would be happy to assist.

All is well just offseason - many months of the year this is the first thing I check in the morning - never fear, summer will be over eventually and once again it will be on...this place is still great

Add one more to the list that reviews the board daily, but posts rarely. Since I crave news about OU basketball, I have to take a look-see at this site.

I am looking forward to better times for OU MBB. We have suffered long enough.

I agree. I come here every day looking for any kind of news.
Can't wait for the season to start.

Probably the best hoops board that covers Big 12 teams. Just a typical Big 12 off season...You know, eligibility questions, injury recovery, rape trials...
