Is this why Capel said "We'll see" about Tiny Gallon?

I typed earlier in the year that either Gallon or Mason-Griffin is gone. I would like to see one of them come back.

I would like to know where TMZ got their info to write the story.

If Capel knew about this, I have a hard time believing Joe C didn't know about it as well.

curious how TMZ got a hold of a document reflecting a wire transfer, depending on the document, dispensing information like that is a federal crime.

That was one of my first thoughts as well (after the facepalm).
Obviously Hausinger wouldn't want this information getting out, and neither would Gallon... so there's no way a celebrity gossip site could have legally obtained either of their financial documents. That's the part that doesn't add up to me.
It's not "a source close to Gallon or Hausinger tells us..." it's "We have Tiny Gallon's bank statement." How the hell could they get a hold of that?

Started to think we could begin to put this season behind us and focus on next year a little. FML.

Someone that works at the bank (or Western Union or whatever), a pissed off friend or ex-girlfriend who had access to his computer, who knows. TMZ pays for stories, and if the right people want money, they know where to go.

edit: the story says it's a joint account with his mother, so it could be an unsavory person associated with her, too, of course.

True, but I think if TMZ paid someone for that information, both parties would be committing a crime.

Well, at the risk of coming across as a Tiny "apologist", I think there are substantial procedural issues with the NCAA utilizing an illeagally obtained document in the prosecution of an athlete or a member institution. Not saying that Tiny didn't do anything wrong or otherwise, but if this hasn't already been dealth with previously [the indefinite suspension], then I don't think this story has legs to it as far as the NCAA is concerned.

There are several ways to get evidence in, but this is the type of evidence that needs to be authenticated. So the natural questions to TMZ are of the "How did you get it" variety, and I'll bet you they won't say (because them having it is probably illeagal as well)...same deal when you hear a journalist that "will not reveal their source" and ends up sitting in jail for contempt. In any event, sounds like the local media is trying to get an interview with the reporter today.

Weird that Tiny Gallon is on TMZ, but had heard that TMZ is looking to make a big push into sports.

Gallon's mom or another relative may have wanted in on the money and sold the document to TMZ.

This is getting ridiculous...it appears our mens basketball program is out of control. I believe the NCAA calls it "lack of institutional control". I don't care how much Joe likes Capel, if Capel can't keep the NCAA away from us his days are numbered.

TMZ is not a celebrity gossip site. They are a serious news organization with the best investigative techniques in the business.

I told you guys a while back they were entering the sports market and ESPN is not going to know what hit them. TMZ will have real journalists going 100 mph and not clueless unqualified clowns like Jeff gottlieb, booby knight, cowherd, etc.

Don't know enough about that to speculate, but I suspect that TMZ has (very good) lawyers advising them on such things.

I expect they do as well...but reporting on a document and actually being required to testify in court as to how you got it are two totally different things. Oh, and being a lawyer let me tell you the biggest fallacy about any organization that has lawyers on staff, first of all, the lawyer's don't get editorial control over what people run with in a story, and generally, don't get brought in until something goes "wrong". Big companies with a bunch of lawyers do stupid stuff all the time...becuase the "business people" run the business, and sometimes walking into a lawsuit is deemed an acceptable business risk. In this instance, Tiny isn't going to want to sue anybody, he'll just want it to go away.

If this is true, Tiny is obviously gone.

If Capel knew, they may have to forfeit every game and the NCAA will not be lenient on OU given that we are fresh off a suspension. Jeff could be in trouble as well if he knew about it and played him all year.

Woah!

Let the reading between the lines commence!

Reading between the lines....:ez-laugh:

Capel posted he was coming back to Twitter at 1 a.m. last night.

TMZ's report, with a quote from Joe Castiglione, was published at 3:03 a.m.

I doubt that Castiglione gave that quote to TMZ between 1 a.m. and 3:03 a.m. so he knew about this before Capel decided to happily announce he was going back on Twitter.

Wouldn't you think as soon as Joe C. was contacted about this for a quote from TMZ, that one of his first calls would have been to Capel? If so, I doubt Capel makes his comeback post on Twitter, and then the follow-up this morning joking about it being an interesting time to come back.

Where's the communication here?

I know, I know.........
