Is this why Capel said "We'll see" about Tiny Gallon?

And what kind of stupid agent/adviser is this ? deposit money directly into a kids account ?

OU Basketball just can't clean up its act. Just when we thought we had moved past Kelvin's nonsense, this happens. I really hope this isn't the final blow to a program that's already on life support.

John Wall had to sit out some games with Kentucky, for excepting travel expense are something from his AaU coach and they allowed him to pay it back.

I wonder if UK fans wanted Wall "gone" from the program? If OU didn't have anything to do with it, then it is on the player to figure out his NCAA eligibility issues.

Here is my bet, NCAA asks Tiny if it is true, Tiny tells the truth [lying is what got Bryant in trouble] and he is permitted to pay the money back and is suspended by the NCAA for a certain number of games and OU and Tiny move on from the incident. See Wall, Jarrett, Troy Smith and several other players.

We had a bad year, now it looks like a guy did something stupid before, during or after that bad year. Let's not get to amped up and ready to kick guys off the teams and fire the coach and AD over for what is now an unsubstantiated report from a gossip magazine.

If Jeff knew about this stuff, this is 1000 times worse than anything Kelvin ever did.

Please explain what the University of Oklahoma did wrong here.

This is what I was hoping as well, that this was old news and had been cleared up.

Does anyone here really think that to keep a freshman elgible, OU, Castiglione or Jeff Capel would knowingly try to hide something or not report something to the NCAA? I know that is what oSu fans are hoping for, but I think it is absolutely safe to say that the University of Oklahoma did not know about this alleged payment, how would they?

No. I don't think this at all. IMO, Jeff did a poor coaching job this year and I think the recruiting overall has been poor, but he has high morals and I don't think he would knowingly play a frosh regardless of how good the player is if he knew something illegal had happened.

This isn't Eddie Sutton or Calipari we are talking about here. Capel didn't send a fedex envelope loaded with cash to Tiny. I can promise you he didn't even know an agent had sent money to Tiny, if it indeed happened.

The only way OU did anything wrong is if this is a separate thing than what he was suspended for this season.

Wasn't the rumor when Keith Gallon was suspended that he was suspended for a game or two that he was suspended for receiving money/shoes from an agent?

If Tiny admits it happened, he will be gone just like Bob booted Bomar. The University cannot take any more NCAA investigations and we need to keep our nose clean. Castiglione will force Capel to give Tiny the boot if this is true, IMO.

Hired a coach that recruited a kid that broke rules?

Judging character is a BIG part of what coaches are hired to do. Easy or not, it's part of their job.

So like Stoops and Bomar/Quinn?

wasnt there a thread started that their was a betting website that had a line on how many kids OU would have coming back...and the line was pretty high...that would be funny if vegas had already had the inside info

actually the line was low

I think this will happen, too.

Not sure if it makes a difference or not, but Troy Smith, Dwayne Jarrett, and John Wall accepted money from boosters (or his coach, in Wall's case), not an active agent. I believe Wall's coach was certified as an agent at one time, but gave his certification up so as not to cause problems for the kids he was coaching (though it did anyways).

I really think it might, I am mainly assuming but you would think the NCAA has different rules regarding an agent than a boaster. In that case it could be worse for Tiny than OU (assuming OU didn't know and didn't try to cover it). If it was a booster I think OU would be in a tougher place but Tiny might not be in as much trouble.

If OU didn't know about it, then Tiny taking money from an agent does nothing to OU, but Tiny is probably looking at a significant suspension. Booster = much worse for school.

If he took the money from an agent, he is likely done, as he would now be considered an professional.

Agreed, but there have been times when a player was allowed to give the money back.

FWIW, I just had an Italian Grinder from Which Which (with Jalapeno chips) and I feel much better. Just saying.

I am afraid that with Gallon if its not one thing there will always be another thing with this kid. In 1 year this kid has given the program a big ole headache. I am sure there are plenty of good things about Tiny, but when it comes to basketball he is close to using up his last lifelines. If this latest allegation is true than he needs to go. He does not seem the type of person who will change and it will always be something with Tiny Gallon.
