Is this why Capel said "We'll see" about Tiny Gallon?

Or maybe the same old thing being thrown out by a news organization looking for hits in their "sports coverage" department. Talked to a friend of mine on the way home from work, some of you are going to feel really stupid.

I won't feel "stupid" at all...I will feel incredibly relieved that it's all bull. I desperately want it to be BS and Tiny be cleared. We need the big guy.

I thought Capel was writing to Willie since both of them decided to reopen their twitter accounts at the same time. Doesnt Willie reply to Capel's tweet also ?

For sure I am not guaranteeing that where there is not smoke there is fire...but that fire is SO far away right now it is not even funny.

People think of the NCAA of this massive entity with thousands of people that can just chase anything that comes up...not so.

In what sense...to me, if it was that "bad", he wouldn't say anything about it (particularly not on a social networking site where his reaction could be misconstrued).

exactly. no tweets a day after he returns to twitter on news like this, i might be concerned. even referring to it makes me think that things must be ok. especially if his tweets go through compliance or whatever.

edit: and the tweet was three hours after the news broke, and before any games had started. i'm almost positive tmz is what he is alluding to, so i'm not worried anymore.

We are on the same tweet (lol).

I think we all need to stop speculating and just let the facts come out. We don't really know anything at this point.

Red what did Coach Capel twitter?

I completely agree. I don't trust TMZ enough to think this is written in stone, but there may be something to it. At this point, I will wait for the information to make any judgments. I hope our players are smart enough not to involve themselves in this kind of blatant ncaa violation, especially when 3,000 dollars is a drop in the bucket compared to what you can lose by falling a few spot in the draft over character issues and being forced to enter the draft early.

All I will say is that is if those who are ready to throw Gallon out the door on this TMZ report are silly.

Agreed. I am naturally inclined to stand by a sooner and TMZ is a trashy online tabloid. I will support Tiny until I am given a confirmed reason not to.

yep...especially Tiny because he could potentially be a top-10 pick.

This is where my head is at. I'm fortunate to have a friend in an interesting spot, this kind of thing is not what the NCAA chases. Gallon may be as guilty as anybody, but NCAA is going to be very diligent in its review...if it reviews at all. My hunch says nothing will come of this...NCAA not about to stoop to chasing "leads" provided by TMZ.

I don't know anything about this incident one way or the other. Nevertheless, it won't be up to the NCAA to investigate this gossip. Joe C doesn't operate this way. OU's compliance department will investigate this in depth. If the TMZ news brought something new to light, OU will get to the bottom of it. If there is wrongdoing by Tiny, OU will report it. That is just the way we operate. History backs this up. It doesn't really matter if the USC way of hiding things pays off better than self reporting, OU will nevertheless self report.

OU's compliance department cannot afford to ignore this news even if it is completely unsubstantiated gossip. They have been put on notice.

JUST FYI, I agree with this 100%. IF there is something new here, I hope they are on it like white on rice.

Ya the more I think about it the more I think you are right and its just TMZ getting their hands on what happened back in February and they are trying to get their sports department going.

As far as the meaning behind Capel's tweet I too believe it means that he chose to start tweeting again the same day the tourney started.

His last tweet " I could listen to Bill Raftery all day long!!!"

Does that have anything to do with the Gallon or TMG? Maybe someone else can find some hidden message in there.

The hidden message is he'd rather listen to him than those prima donna's TMG and Tiny. (just kidding, of course).

LOL @ the homers definition of gossip.

Documentation of a confirmed wire transfer = gossip.
Confirmed name of sender = gossip.
Confirmed names on joint account of recipient = gossip.
Date of transfer = gossip.
Amount of transfer = gossip.
Phone records of contact with sender who refuses comment = gossip.

Yeah, I'm sure the NCAA doesn't have the resources to "chase" such speculative "gossip". It would entail so much effort, you know, like asking TMZ for a copy of the documentation and then demand that OU provide an explanation.

Agreed.... I don't think "gossip" is this specific.

Now, if TMZ ran a story about how an OU player (not named) might have received money from an unknown source but there is no documention, that would be gossip.

TMZ isn't infallible; isn't it the same site that fell for the JFK photo hoax recently?

http://www.inquisitr.com/54281/tmz-fail/

There have been more TMZ faceplants than the one above. Does it mean that there is no way the Tiny story is true? Of course not, but to condemn the kid over a TMZ story is ludicrous. I recommend we wait for proof before we hang 'im ;)

I find it very hard to believe that, in today's day and age of NCAA violations, an athlete would only be suspended 2 games for receiving $3,000 from a certified agent. Even in the cases of athletes receiving money from boosters, they have had to pay the money back to a charitable organization before they could play again, and there have been reports about each of these cases. There has not been a peep out of anyone regarding Tiny making a charity contribution to any organiztion in order to get his name in the clear.

Say what you want about TMZ being a "trashy online tabloid", but they scoop more entertainment stories than any other media outlet out there. And yes, college athletics is considered entertainment. The Tiger Woods text message fiasco and both of Ben Roethlisberger's sexual assault incidents are just a few examples. The producer from TMZ that was on the Sports Animal yesterday said that an anonymous source tipped them off about the Tiny thing. Kind of makes you wonder who might have done that.
