Is this why Capel said "We'll see" about Tiny Gallon?

If this situation was fully vetted (Capel, Joe C, Boren, NCAA) and OK'd:

(1) great. We need Tiny back (with his head straight, but that's another story)

(2) how the hell is it kosher to take this guy's money? NCAA clearance or not it doesn't pass the smell test. Does the NCAA want to create a viper's nest of quasi-agents? And next time some kid takes $ thinking it's OK because Tiny did it, the guy's an agent and you've lost your Blake Griffin.

This is breaking news and new facts will, of course, emerge. Just saying that if taking $3k like this is within the rules then we need new rules.

I don't see how an athlete could accept $3,000 and only receive a 2 game suspension. If that were the case, we would see thousand dollar handouts all over the place. Two game suspensions would be nothing to programs wanting to get the elite players on campus.

Some info from the Tulsa World story I hadn't see yet:

In an interview with Oklahoma’s Sports Animal radio network, TMZ producer Charles Latibeaudiere indicated his organization began investigating the story over a month ago after receiving a tip. He said the investigation produced evidence of just one transaction between Hausinger and Gallon’s family.

Does anybody think ESPN, the Tulsa World or Oklahoman has anybody on their staff half as talented and aggressive as TMZ? Of course they don't. The Tulsa World and Oklahoman are tiny compared to TMZ so they could never afford the expense of competing. ESPN will try but get run over.

Tiny was suspended earlier from an issue concerning the OU and NCAA compliance departments. The word was that it may have had something to do with Tiny being involved with an agent before he came to OU. They investigated it and found nothing and Tiny was allowed to play. Obviously this is something new added to the Tiny saga!

Or maybe the same old thing being thrown out by a news organization looking for hits in their "sports coverage" department. Talked to a friend of mine on the way home from work, some of you are going to feel really stupid.

Give us the scoop. No need to hold back.

This is old news, and the NCAA will not be chasing "TMZ" reports. That is what a friend that I went to law school with (and works for the NCAA compliance department) said. Online news organization attempting to generate hits prior to the biggest sporting event going on right now = TMZ has "confirmed". Makes sense to the casual observer...Tiny might have gotten a $1,000,000 from an agent, but NCAA will not chase TMZ gossip.

I find it very hard to believe that if this is what was investigated the first time and was found to be nothing, that OU would have not come out and said such. The fact that this "rumor" has not already been squashed today by an OU representative leads me to believe that there may be fire behind all the smoke.

Or a joint effort by NCAA and OU not to give an online gossip magazine a foothold into NCAA stuff.

You're kidding me! But a poster assures us that TMZ has real reporters and news and isn't a gossip site!

That's what puzzles me to. If they already looked into this particular "payment" and cleared Tiny to play after sitting out against OSU, then come out and say that so everyone can move on.

Guess we will see on that one.

Here is a thought, did NCAA shut down USC over the various yahoo.com reports?

NCAA overall is a very "small" organization, it has to pick and choose what "leads" it chases.

Sad, but at least for "Sooner Nation", internet trash wins over common sense. Eschbach knows nothing about it, TMZ reporting more Tiger "texts" = Traber thinks they are reputable.

the fact that capel even alluded to this on twitter tells me all i need to know.

I think we all need to stop speculating and just let the facts come out. We don't really know anything at this point.

Red what did Coach Capel twitter?

In what sense...to me, if it was that "bad", he wouldn't say anything about it (particularly not on a social networking site where his reaction could be misconstrued).

His twitter was so basic you can't tell what he was talking about. For all we know he was talking about the start of the NCAA Tournament.
