Is this why Capel said "We'll see" about Tiny Gallon?

Makes you wonder how often this type of stuff happens or is at least attempted. We're talking about a potential draft pick next year or the year after being offered a small sum of $3,000. Would bet money this Merrill Lynch guy has offered this deal to more people than Tiny...

This is sounding like a separate incident than from whatever happened earlier in the year. If this was the hold-up when he missed the OSU game, and then he was cleared and came back for the next game against Colorado, I think Joe C. would have mentioned that in his statement. Instead, like I said above, this quote appears to be AD speak when a new allegation surfaces. Not good.

“The University of Oklahoma is committed to ensuring compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations,” OU athletic director said in a statement to The Oklahoman. “Any activity not in compliance is taken seriously and is acted upon swiftly.”

This part that has been added to the initial report is interesting:

Gallon missed the Sooners’ Feb. 13 game at Oklahoma State while serving a one-game suspension for an “internal matter,” the school said.

After that suspension, The Oklahoman submitted a records request to OU’s open records office asking for any correspondence between the school and the NCAA regarding Gallon.

The school responded that no such documentation existed.

I think we can stop hoping this is old news to those in the athletic department

so will we have to vacate our 09-10 wins, if this is proven to be true?

As some have already said, we are hoping that this is NOT old news within the athletic department. Because otherwise, Joe C. and Jeff C. may have some big problems.

Some OSU fans are hoping that. Obviously I was hoping that the university was aware of it and had handled it appropriately and sufficiently, not that they had swept it under the rug.

I'm going to be a total homer here and post that the good news is I think the worst that happens is we lose Tiny.

I don't think this will put the program on any further probation, at least that's what happened in the Troy Smith/Ohio State case. Not sure how the past probation effects this though.

From what I found after a quick Google search, Smith took $500 from a Buckeye booster and was suspended two games, but Ohio State didn't receive any sanctions for it. If my Google searched sucked and I am wrong, let me know.

JEEEZEBUS! Is ou email account thing true? What an idiot, if so!

I don't think this can be the two game suspension reason.

I agree with Jeff, if OU knew beforehand and did nothing, big trouble. If OU knew, investigated and found nothing -- and then TMZ did -- and the NCAA sure as hell will or they will just make it up to screw us -- then we are going down big time.

Serious violations withing 5 years of each other? The NCAA would pound us just because they know they can. THey always do.

Umm.. So if we're saying Tiny's problem earlier this season that got him suspended was a different issue what kind of f-ing kids are we recruiting to the program ? These kids dont practice, dont go to class, have terrible attitudes and break multiple NCAA rules. Give me a break.

If this is a separate issue then we need to get rid of Gallon. Hope TMG wants to come back but that doesn't look too good either.

wasnt there a thread started that their was a betting website that had a line on how many kids OU would have coming back...and the line was pretty high...that would be funny if vegas had already had the inside info

I don't think that is being a homer, I think that is probably the absolute worst thing that could happen. It'd be like putting oSu on probation for Dez Bryant rolling with Deion and hanging with the agent; what did the school have to do with it?

The ruination of college sports will come from agents and shoe companies, not the NCAA or boosters or otherwise. If a booster does something stupid and get's caught, the school goes on probation and an entire fanbase hates your guts [see Big Red guy], if an agent does something like this, the player gets suspended and the agent gets, well, nothing really.

Regarding the shoe companies, now that players are picking schools based on what "brand" a college is affiliated with [and whether said "brand" matches up to his AAU team], there is just waiting to be some issues.

If I were the NCAA, I'd try to fix by doing the following:

1. Mandate no more shoe money for a coach or sponsorships by specific brands.

2. Mandate that all gear used in any NCAA sport will be logo free.

3. Mandate that any player that plays on an AAU team that recieves money from a shoe company be disqualified from particpating in the NCAA.

4. Work with the NBA and NFL to figure out ways to punish agents, street agents and other hustlers who violate NCAA regulations.

This all just stinks. It's terrible for us dedicated OU loving, basketball fans. I hope our program can recover.

This is what I was hoping as well, that this was old news and had been cleared up.

Does anyone here really think that to keep a freshman elgible, OU, Castiglione or Jeff Capel would knowingly try to hide something or not report something to the NCAA? I know that is what oSu fans are hoping for, but I think it is absolutely safe to say that the University of Oklahoma did not know about this alleged payment, how would they?

No. There's no doubt in my mind that this latest story is news to them.

ok if separate incidents what the F did Tiny do earlier that got him suspended ? We heard something about taking shoes or money from an agent at the time... He was connected with 2 different agents ?! Have to think whatever happened now is connected.

I think this has to be the same thing. If this is a separate issue it was a mistake to ever play the guy. And it's unbelievable that we didn't find anything out earlier.
