Cousins last 5 games
2-22 overall
1-8 from three

Neal last 5 games
0-9 overall
0-6 from three

Together that is:

2-31 overall for 6%
1-14 from three for 7%

I would like to see Kruger sculpt these guys into role players and get them to buy into doing the dirty work. Why in the world would we want these two guys shooting 6 shots per game that could go to Osby, M'Baye, Pledger, Hield, Hornbeak, Clark, etc.

agree. Neal should be the last one that actually plays off the bench if at all. Hes atrocious right now

Tyler Neal brings one thing to the court. His sometimes ability to knock down threes from the "4" spot. He did hit 34% from three last year, which is pretty decent. I think his minutes in Big 12 games will go down quite a bit.

This is unacceptable production, especially out of Isaiah Cousins. If he is the starting point guard he is easily the worst starting point guard in the conference, and with numbers like that, maybe the country. Aren't going to win anything with a starter who averages 1 point a game.

He hasn't started the last two games, and his role has diminished significantly.

You'd know that if you'd watch the games, rather than just blindly give your opinion.

amen!!

Not only do these guys not score but they really provide nothing positive while on the court. I would hope Tyler Neal's playing time will be close to 0 in big 12 play and cousins used off the bench if needed.

I'm OK with Kruger playing both of them in this game. It's obvious they are player 9 & 10 in the rotation.

Cousins is too good of an athlete to give up on. He's quick and plays good defense, but his confidence is non-existent right now. His shot looks flat and hurried, and he's playing scared.

I'm not sure about Neal's role. I guess as an outside shooter from the post. He's obviously the 5th man in the post (4 & 5). Osby and M'Baye are playing well right now. Fits provides some mid-range offense. Clark is more physical and active than Neal and seems to have taken any minutes Neal might have received.

Of the 2, I think they may need Cousins if someone gets hurt (e.g. Grooms against SFA) or in foul trouble. Hield and Pledger aren't really PG. Besides, they need to rotate a lot if they want to maintain their on-ball defensive intensity (which I love)..... doubling on the screens.

Just my opinion.....

Cousins is quick? I'm sorry and I really don't like to dog a player on a message board, but I've seen nothing from him that makes me think he will ever be a real good player. What am I missing that Lon sees? Avg shooter, Not real athletic, and doesn't create for others.

I don't agree with you on his athleticism. I think he is very athletic. All three of the freshmen guards are athletic. He isn't a great shooter, and despite a few that bought into the press clippings he was getting late last year, I don't think most people ever referred to him as a shooter. I do think he'll shoot the ball better than he currently is shooting it though.

As for creating for others, again, it goes back to what he was coming out of HS. Sure he played some point, but he isn't a point guard. I was pretty shocked that he was starting at pg over Hornbeak, as I've felt for some time that Hornbeak was the more natural pg, though neither are true points. I saw Cousins attack a little more today. I think he was getting lost in running the team, and getting the offense set. That is why it's tough to have true freshman point guards, especially when they aren't really point guards. Far and away the toughest spot to stick a young kid in college basketball.

If you don't see the potential in Cousins, I don't really know what to say. I'm not suggesting he'll turn into Hollis Price, or anybody like that. But I do feel that he will continue to improve, and he'll help us win a lot of games in his 4 years at OU.

Yeah I agree on Cousins. Need to keep getting him minutes this year as he can help us in the future.

I agree but we need to start molding him into a specific type of player. Right now he's throwing up jump shots and praying...he needs to be running the floor in transition, posting up smaller guards, and penetrating from the wing...

In my opinion, Cousins was our best guard in the preseason scrimmages and ex hibition games and I agreed with Lon that he should be the starting guard. Early in the season, I put something on this board that was something to the effect that I thought he was the best or had the most potential of the freshman. Unfortunately, he has been slow to develop. Like tons of freshman, he has played without confidence and agression. He has played tight, and then his poor start has made him even worse.

But, he is going to be a player in time and I think Lon is handling him like an experianced coach that has seen a lot of talented freshman struggle and then become a good player.

Spot on post right here.
Cousins will end up being a good ballplayer for OU. His minutes will go down cause he has struggled some and looks like he has no confidence.
But there will be a couple of conference games where foul trouble will happen and he will be called upon. Hopefully he can get some mojo back and become a good role player that provides OU some good small minutes this year.

I have no problem with continuing to give Cousins minutes. Neal on the other hand is now a Junior and outside of a few fleeting moments of brillance has not shown that he has improved enough to warrent meaninful minutes.

I am aware of who starts and who does not. Notice I said "if" he is the starting pg. He started a majority of the non-con and has been recently demoted to the bench.

Cousins played the off guard yesterday and looked pretty poor. Not sure how he is going to gain much confidence this season now that we are into league play. I think we are going to settle on a 8 man rotation (Grooms, Fitz, Clark). Cousins and Neal may get a few mins here or there to mix things up. Thoughts?

He hasn't been the starting pg for 4 games and has not played PG at all in most of those games
