it's really exciting to see the team doing such a good job defensively and really trying to clamp down on defense when the shots aren't falling. this will be a tremendous boost in conference play and will translate better to March than just relying on jumpers to fall.

Exciting, indeed! This is the best our defense has looked in sometime, much better than last season. Our kids have finally bought into the idea that, unlike perimeter shooting, good defense is reliable when you play hard and work together as a team.

The run OU made in the last few minutes of the first half was very impressive. An eight or nine point deficit turned into a big lead at the half, most of it due to great defense that led to some easy points.

I think the Sooners put just as much emphasis on defense last year. The big difference is Thomas. Last year we had to help so much against the bigs inside that we were vulnerable on the perimeter and out of position at times against a penetrating guard.

Now along with Spangler we have a shot blocker space eating guy inside. That makes a huge difference in how the guards and wings can defend outside and apply pressure to the ball.

And of course, another year of experience helps.

The team is much better defensively than it was last year. That is exciting. I'm really impressed with the improvement and it's not just Thomas. They're better individually and better when helping one another out. If we can get the offensive issues ironed out, and last night was a good start, this team can be really good.

Excellent post. I had some of the same thoughts watching us take the game over due to D. Demoralized Kimmy's crew

If the individuals on this team needed proof that really good defense wins, they should be impressed with what they did. That kind of defense wins games.

Actually if Mizzou had not hit several treys out of their behinds we would have really crushed them.

It might be the best since Hollis price's senior year.

I agree with last few post about Fridays game. But that was not a very good Missouri team.

I was at the game. My first this year. The crowd was not bad. Even during OU's best days, it has been hard to put butts in the seats in December.

My hope, really is that the kids see it. Come out defensively intense as possible at the beginning of the game and get our offensive tempo from the results. I really think this would open our offense up more quickly. We seem to have this lull at the beginning where we are "seeing if the jumpers fall". Blah. Worry more about D and the fact that we have good scorers will make the offense come.

Even a bad major conference team is well above average for all of college basketball. That team is probably in the top third of all college teams, maybe even higher.
