...the only recruits we have a chance with are ones about to sign with OCU or Southern Nazarene.

Now I don't have anything against those schools - but that's just not good for OU.

Tyler Neal????:clap

A lot of our guys should be at a lower level...Blair, Thompson, Franklin, Hardrick, Honore, Newell and/or Washington.

Although I think Newell can be a solid D1 player I do agree about the others. This just confirms my point that Capel is not a good recruiter.

FRANKLIN IS A WALK ON!!!!!
p.s. why was he on a bball schedule for us? we put walk-ons on stuff??? embarassing

Newell should be getting more time than Blair. The season is already done for, why not develop Newell? He's significantly more talented than Blair. Oh well.

Newell should be starting simply because according to Capel he is one of the best defenders on the team. Pledger plays little defense, so he should be on the bench. Blair can play some defense, but he's usually out of position.

I recommended after the KSU game that Blair sit out a few games for the boneheaded move of talking trash during a dead ball which cost us the game. I stated Pledger should slide over to the 1 for the few games, which we have no chance of winning anyway, and put Newell at the 2 just to see what he could do. Like I say, we are going to lose both games, so let's see what we have in Newell who I think has some skills.

Bobby Martin is somewhere reading this and throwing a ***** fit while wearing a sweater vest

How is that embarassing? I actually applaud the athletic department for that. He's just as much apart of the team as anyone, he is still awake at 530 for offseason workouts and is still spending his time trying to make our starters better players. Great for him to get some recognition for all his work

I agree.

I thought he was on partial scholarship for us anyway?

At one point last season, it looked like Franklin may be our starting PG.

Bench Blair for a technical? Really? That's just ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as saying that technical cost us the game.

I don't believe Capel said that Newell was one of the best defenders. I believe he said he had the potential to be. Two totally different things. Not to mention, Capel made that quote in August before practice started up.

Pledger plays fairly good defense, significantly better than how Newell has fared so far. You want to bench him for not playing good defense, yet you want him to start at point guard (a position he proved he couldn't play against mid-majors earlier in the year)

I think in Neal's case, it's fair to say he was underevaluated and undervalued. In Blair, Newell, Thompson, and Ahmed's case, it is the total opposite. Now it looks like we're going down the same road with a buch of juco scrubs and east coast prep school washups.

Actually, he made the comment in late October, I think it was the 25th. He called Newell a "lockdown defender".

The only reason I stated to put Pledger at PG (if Blair was suspended) for a few games was so we could see Newell with extended minutes at the 2G spot. I guess they could play Franklin at the PG for a few games, but he's not really one of the 2 better players.

The technical definitely cost us the game. Down by 5, Blair misses an ill-advised 3 point shot, then goes bonehead and gets a T when KSU hadn't scored in multiple possessions. The crowd got into the game and KSU was fired up...game over. If he doesn't get the technical, I'm not totally convinced we would win, but we had them on the ropes. After the technical, game over.

Definitely cost us the game.

I'm asking this question not because I'm trying to offend, but because I don't know or can't remember.

Were you a Sampson basher because he recruited a bunch of JUCO's? You don't seem to like the JUCO kids much, yet our program thrived with JUCO's at one time.

Like I say, not trying to offend. I apologize in advance if I do offend with the question.

The Juco system was different because a lot of top talent didn't qualify. Now most of the top kids qualify and if they don't they go to prep school for a year. The Juco system is so watered down, its ridiculous. For instance, Oklahoma had 5 juco kids get d1 offers. Only one kid was a high major signee. The best players in juco generally are the ones who transfer out from d1 programs. If Dominique Raney or Josh Richardson were to play juco, they would put up nasty numbers. Kelvin would be all over those guys because Kelvin had an eye for identifying potential. In Capel's case, you have to jump hoops to get an offer if you're from Oklahoma. We have in my opinion, 4 players instate who are better than half of the players on the OU roster. The two I just mentioned, Ryan Spangler and Drew Wilson. I'll go on a limb and say that the kid at Douglass would run the pg better than Blair or Newell. He's defintely quicker than both

There are two things working here, Oklahoma kids like Neal are underevaluated. If they're not on Athletes First and being seen by coaches all over the country, its hard for them to get looks. The other thing working is the instate coaches, Capel, Ford, and Wocjik take them for granted. Then when the s##t hits the fan, they go juco scrambling.

It happens all the time. Personally, I think coaches that don't give walk-ons scholarships for a single year when they are available are simply unkind. It does not hurt OU to pay Franklin's tuition if the scholarship is not otherwise being used. Now if you can sign a scholarship player Franklin should go back to walk-on status.

But, but, but Capel is the most amazingest recruiter of all time!
