Jarion Henry tweet

Put my reporter hat back on for a day and emailed his junior college coach, Russell May. Here's what I've got:

Is Henry planning on signing with OU?: "He is uncommitted."

Is OU still actively recruiting him?: "I do not believe so."

A man of many words. So there you go. Regarding the "I don't believe so" maybe he's not 100 percent in the loop. Who knows with this kid. Maybe OU is waiting for him to qualify before moving forward. Or maybe I'm wasting my time.

That's the story for now.

Bingo. Kid hasn't been able to figure it out in high school, prep school or junior college. Why would he be able to make it at a D1 school?

I've had the feeling for a while now that all the pro-OU stuff being tweeted by Henry really didn't mean much in terms of him ending up here. Not sure why he tweets it. Maybe we're still his favorite program given it's his dad's school. Don't know. Maybe he still has hopes that OU will reach out again IF his grades are in order.

I hope the kid gets a shot somewhere, and if that somewhere is OU, I'm okay with that. I just don't think he is in LK's plans at this point.

Thanks OUHoops for reaching out to his coach.

I think he's going to have a lot of suitors if he qualifies. Big if though. He's becoming the hoops version of Smoke Patterson.

I love you putting the reporter hat back on. Going straight to the source. Good move.

We haven't been recruiting him since he didn't make it the first time.

Grayshirts don't go to school. They sit out and then go the following year in basketball and in football it is the spring semester. This way their clock doesn't start ticking. They also don't have to pay any money out of pocket this way.

Well, not sure this information is correct. Take the kid that just committed to OU as a recruited walk on. He never took an official visit to OU. I had two different staff members walk me through it just recently. It is their understanding and now mine that if they had brought the kid in on an official, their options were limited. He would be signed to a scholly or not. But, he could not walk on.

A grayshirt is enrolled in school on their own dime. They can access the weight room and gym and ect. But, they can not play and are not on the roster. However a players clock (five years to play four) starts when they first enroll in college or JC. Henry enrolled in JC 3 yrs. ago. He has two years eligibility left. It doesn't matter if he walks on or is on a scholarship or spends his time at the pool hall, he is out of eligibility in two years.

The clock rule makes sense. I do not know the official rule but a friend of mine and a really good player couldn't go D1 after Juco because he played a year, then spent almost 4 years in jail, then played another season in juco.

I just put my reporter hat on and spoke with Jarion Henry.

He said that he hasnt spoken to OU all year, so Im not sure what I'm doing at this point. He also said he still wanted to be in a sooner uni next year.

Short and sweet.

How long has he been saying he wants to be at OU "next year?" It has to be two years, maybe longer.

Gotta give it up to a kid for keeping his personal dream alive. But at this point, I'm thinking it may be nothing more than one with little chance of coming true.

Let's hope Jarion can get his grades in order. You can never have too many talented big guys who love your school. Seems like a real long shot (and history proves that out) but you never know I suppose. Good luck to the kid either way.
