Unclear if she is planning to transfer or if she is just opting out of the season due to COVID. Regardless, she is no longer on the Soonersports.com roster.

I remember last season, a few people speculating to her transferring due to lack of playing time and negative body language on the sideline. With a team that is down to only 10 players, there were 3 point guards, and she appeared to be third in line.

If my aging brain can remember, I think I was one of those people.

Lampkin didn't surprise me all that much either. I don't think she was ever really given a chance.

None of the other transfers have surprised me either.

Frankly, I'm surprised Scott didn't skedaddle too. Wouldn't be surprised if she does after this season when Anna and Williams graduate.

Like everyone else, I'm expecting a complete and utter implosion this year, but I'll still watch. Actually, it might just be nice to see what we all now believe is going to happen -- all but Joe C and Sherri.

If Sherri is such a great coach, let's see her make a winning cake out of the sh** program she has created over the last 10+ years.

For the 2020-21 season Wiliams is junior and Llanusa is a senior. Both will be given an extra year of eligibility and an extra year to complete that eligibilty because of covid. Hence in the 2021-22 Williams will still be a junior and Llanusa will be a senior. I would expect Williams to play her senior year but with the injury Llanusa may decide it is time to get on with her life after college.

Another poster says Jessi is marrying her girlfriend. Did Sherri know she was gay. Second gay player to leave program in two years.

Something's gotta be up.

First racist allegations and now something's up when the second acknowledged gay player leaves the program in two years?

There's been gay players before.

Does anyone have insight or guesses as to WTF is going on?

I don't have insight, but I highly doubt her sexuality wasn't accepted. There have been many gay players in the program during Sherri's tenure, other than the ones who have posted openly about their relationships.

I have been vocal about Sherri's handling of racial inequality, but there's currently no reason to believe she hasn't been supportive of her gay players throughout the years. She supported Whitney Richie a few months ago when she was engaged to a woman.

Judging from Jessi's social media, it seems like she was ready to move on from basketball, move away from Norman, and get married. We don't have any evidence to believe she was encouraged to leave because of her sexuality.

I don’t think Sherri wasn’t in support of Jessi, it seems like it was a person reason for Jessi to leave the program more so then anything Sherri did ( all thought a lack of playing time followed by Tot jointing the team and Washington coming in next year) just sounds like Jessi is ready to move on with her life... there have been a number of gay players at OU, but most come out after college, I think it’s more like a don’t ask don’t tell type of thing, but of course that happens at other schools like Baylor as well.

She was another nice player, but not a D-1 athlete, just about like 80% of the recruits we have had over the last 10 years.

I'm afraid the OU women program is at the point of taking what they can get..far as players goes

Bingo!! This year's seniors were in the 4th grade the last time OU went to the Sweet 16.

I agree. I mean, just look at this freshman class and next year's class. We got lucky with a couple of them being legit D1 players, but it looks like the majority are lower level quality players. Which has been SC's recruiting trend and finally started showing in our record as of late. Now that we have a total of 40 wins over four seasons it will be hard to sign any premier talent. We will have to luck out and sign a Sooner born and bred type of player like Ana and Washington and just hope they can lead us to victory. But, as we all know it takes five players to win, one or two can't do it on their own. We've just gotten so deep in that I believe the only thing to resolve this recruiting nightmare is to just bring in a new coach. It's sad days for OU WBB fans because our AD obviously could care less and is fine with having a program that hemorages money, as I'm sure we have been by looking at the empty seats.

I just wonder how bad this program is going to get over the next few years. Every year JC waits to pull the plug is another wasted year of rebuilding the program.

Pull the plug? Joe C gave her an extension this summer

They are going to have to buy her out. When the racist allegations came out, it was an opportunity to let her go with cause. It won't happen now. I will take a big check.

If the racial stuff didn't get her, the only hope there is the donor/alumni base.

A number of very prominent people have supported Sherri, including bigshot business, political leaders and prominent women. They are going to have to pull back, lose interest, or decide she's doing the program more harm than good for Joe to get the balls to force her out or fire her.

He might just be too gutless to pull the plug on a Hall of Fame coach. It took Coke and machine guns for the university bosses to get rid of Switzer, remember.

However, I think we could find a solid replacement. It's going to take 4-5 years to rebuild this program once she's gone anyway.

However, when you sit back and analyze this, even from a distance, it certainly seems bizarre and a sign of significant failure that Joe C. hasn't moved on this already.

I will ask a question of all you folks. Can any of you remember when a failing OU coach of any sport or sex has been give a decade to turn a program around without being fired? Or for that matter of any sport at any major university?

I cannot think of one.

I cannot find the records or a list of former coaches by sport when I attempt to google for the info. But having followed Sooner sports for close to 60 years and OU women's sports since there inception it is my observation the OU's posture on the minor sports is to allow them to suffer with losing records for many years and then every decade or so a replacement coach but never a high ranking top national coach in the sport but instead a hopeful up and comer they can put on the staff for a little pay as possible.

Should a minor sports coach have major national success for multiple years and the Sooners will pay some coaches top dollar as they do Patty Gasso (approximately $1 million). Patty makes nearly twice what any other softball coach makes at a top national school. Texas' Mike White make $450K plus bonus that likely approach $100K for about $550K. Florida's Tim Walton makes $470K.

For certain there was no need to pay Patty $400K more than her nearest competitor but because of press Joe C. wrote her a big check. However other top OU coaches are not reward in the same manner as Patty.
Mark Williams with 9 national championships at OU is paid only $300K and K.J. Kindler with 4 national championships is paid $450K.

From my perspective the difference in softball vs gymnastics TV revenue does not warrant a pay differential of $500K-$650K more than that of Kindler and Williams. Obviously there is a lot of politics involved in what OU coaches are paid.
