Joe C is losing a lot of respect on his.....

Really? You live in Vegas. My family has been donating and attending games since 1976. I think I have every right to be pissed off. Arkansas got a coach a little over a week after they fired their coach. Are we that less of a program that we can't get on it and hire a coach just as quickly so that we can get recruiting? I don't think so. The amount of money and attention that is actually put into the basketball program resinates into butts in the seats. Therefore, there has been a lot of lack there of attention. And our butts hitting us on the way out is a lot of money. Six donor seats aren't cheap.

More to the point, Arkansas hired their coach, 7 days after their new coach finished his season. Joe's alleged #1 target has been done with his season for about 45 hours. He would have been foolish to go hire some mid-major coach who is sitting at home watching the tournament, before doing due diligence on the guys who he may want, who are still playing.

Relax.

If Missouri was still playing, Arkansas would still have no coach.

I bet Joe C. is likely updating his daily deeds for those whose donor status entitlement are paramount to the very survival of the basketball program. I think that you would not be on the short list for the updates.

I get told how to do my job everyday. Tax payers tell the congress how they feel and crap rolls downhill. Being an officer in the Air Force, I don't get a lot of freedom on "how to do my job." Deal with.

You are giving Air Force officers a bad name.

6 donor seats. :ez-laugh: Get over yourself.

OU is my alma mater. I doubt you and your six donor seats care more about OU basketball than I do all the way here in Vegas. Difference is, I don't go flaunting my contributions to my alma mater on a message board. ;)

It's mine too. And my point was that if he doesn't get a good coach he is going to lose more people. He really doesn't put a lot emphasis in our basketball program. Less emphasis by the put into it by the administration makes for less emphasis by the fans. It goes hand-in-hand.

Interesting. I figured the Air Force would have taught you not to overreact.

I think its funny when people honestly think an athletic director does not care for a sport that he/she is in charge of. If Joe did not care he would not have a job.....Being upset and dissapointed is one thing, but to say Joe does not care is about as dumb of a thing i have read on here in a long time.

There are 24 hours in a day. A person doesn't have to dedicate every minute of those 24 hours to a task to get it done well and on time.

I agree. However, I would also say the Capel hire has made Joe appear as if he doesn't value the mens basketball program. If we end up with someone similar to Capel (Jones, Martin, etc.) then I think it's fair to conclude Joe definitely does not value the mens basketball program.

Kind of like wrestling given the fact he allowed Spates to continue coaching regardless of his abysmal record vs OSU and in the tournaments that matter.

I'm not sure I agree. Wrestling was big when I was in school, but it has really lost popularity as a sport overall. How many schools have wrestling programs these days? Wrestling is fairly irrelevant to everyone.

I may be overreacting a little, but your program is what the higher-ups put into it. We have become second-tier because, yes, Joe C and clan don't put the emphasis on mens basketball like Florida and Wisconsin do. Same for Texas A&M now. Remember how bad they were when I was a kid. They got an athletic director that put a lot emphasis in their mens and womens basketball programs and they have been consistently really good for a while now. It's my opinion. I usually don't get angry about a lot. When people were calling for Stoops head or Capel's after his first bad year I didn't budge. But this program is in dire straights. We need a great coach to revive what once was second to only Kansas in the conference. We were a top 15 team every year. We need that again. It was great when our women were great, our football team was great, our baseball team was great and our mens team was great. Early to mid 2000's were a great run for our athletic program. I am just wanting that to happen again.

Once a person starts rolling his/her credits about how much money they contributed, or how long they have attended games, I have learned to stop reading right there, and pay that glory seeker no attention.

I have seen several posters this season who act like they deserve to have a greater voice, or to be taken more seriously because of their self-proclaimed contributions. Did you give or attend because you were a fan, or because you wanted to earn whiner points??

What happened to supporting the school that you love, simply because you love it?? What happened to being fans instead of cry-babies who threaten to take their ball and go home when things don't go their way?? What happened to allowing the people who make the decisions, to make the decisions??? Everyday I'm understanding better why my best friend who I attended OU with, wants nothing to do with Sooner message boards. Getting close to that same sentiment myself, and that is really sad......

I find it interesting that many who wanted both Kelvin and Capel gone are so inclined to defend Joe. The only basis that I have heard for that support is that he hired Stoops.

When you have the tradition in football that the University of Oklahoma has, you don't give accolades for hiring a competent football coach. With our reputation and resources, that is a given. If we were in the same place in basketball, we might well be considering hiring Self or Dean Smith or whoever the best of the best is. When you are the king of the hill, the number of viable princes is unlimited.

It is more important to consider what other hires or lack thereof are on his record. I consider the hiring of the current men's and women's gymnastics coaches to be positives. I think the hiring of the track coach is a positive. I consider letting the wrestling program which has won as many national titles as the football program fall to the level that it has fallen to be a complete lack of competence. Why would you not be concerned about a program that has been national champions seven times and probably runners up another ten?

I was not very comfortable with the way that Kelvin's departure was handled. Did he really know for a year that the NCAA was investigating Kelvin, and he didn't warn Kelvin? If that is true, I have zero respect for the man.

I don't know what to expect from this basketball hire. I don't think he has handled this well, and I really don't anticipate a significant upgrade in the program.

Surprise me.

I rarely if ever agree with any of your posts, but you are spot-on here.

I don't think they have strawberry fanta, but they should start selling "Big Red". That is by far the best red soda pop you will ever have. Bar none.

And, it's a natural fit because of it's name to be sold at our games.
