Joe is F'in it up

hiring Kruger would be like hiring a bookmark.

Why Fraschilla?

Because he's been successful as a HC. Was in the post season all 4 years at manhattan, including beating OU in th first round in 1994-95. He took a St. Johns team in shambles and got them to 20 wins in his second season. He wasn't as successful at New Mexico which is no Mecca for basketball. He's been a successful coach and has never coached a high major program. Plus he has a lot of connections in this region.

They'll be doing bedcheck at Griffin in a few hours.

Why don't ya'll wait until the timer goes off before you judge the quality of the cake?

I just feel it.

He's screwing us over.

He's more worried about how the public views his hire now instead of how good the coach is for OU.

These names being thrown around now are simply ludicrous.

I am not a huge fan of Joe C. (I don't hate the guy, I just don't have this huge admiration for him that many OU fans seem to have - I attribute most of the recent success of OU to Boren not Joe C.) but in fairness to the guy he is not throwing around any names. It is all speculation and guessing by the media and fans.

Fraschilla took over for Dave Bliss, who had UNM in the NCAA tournament six out of the last 7 years and seven out of nine when he was in ABQ (1991-1999).

Kruger looks like a pretty mediocre hire over his career. Mostly nothing at good schools like Florida and Illinois.

Clown post.

Florida was THE WORST program in the SEC when Kruger took it over. The KSU of basketball was Florida. They were atrocious. They offered him one of the largest contracts in college basketball at the time and he built them into a final 4 team.

Then he left for Illinois which was on probation from Lou Henson's last years in Champaign (think Bruce Pearl when he was an asst at Iowa who turned them in) and he built them. He was the first coach to ever sign 3 straight Illinois POY's (from HS). Lou Henson never did it, neither did Bobby Knight, neither did Tom Izzo, nobody.

Then he went to the NBA and failed at the Atlanta Hawks.

Then he went to UNLV and took over another program in the doldrums and took them to the NCAA in either his 2nd or 3rd year and they have been every year since.

Yes after Bliss left SMU in shambles for playing players. I'm sure he was a straight shooter for the Lobos. Fran didn't get along with the players at NM, players which Bliss brought in. He probably cut the player payroll and was doomed from the beginning. Bliss was a below average coach then started cheating and became really successful then fell back to below average.

Look, I don't know the history of what the programs were like. I just see the records on wikipedia, and he averages about 20 wins a season and a first round exit, or the NIT. The FL team had one good year and a bunch of suckage all around that year. Illinois was good, but he didn't stay there long. Anyone think of that? If the dude is so epic, why hasn't he stayed put anywhere?

I'm not saying I hate the move, and it would certainly get us back to not sucking. But with a guy who's been coaching that long there is absolutely no doubt what we get. 20 wins and a first round tourney loss on average, with one year in ten making a decent run. Kelvin was better than that, and we all know how much heat he got.

lol, the late Patrick Dennehy (who quit during the middle of the game) was a Fraschilla recruit. Bottom line is all Fraschilla could do in three years was muster a second round NIT berth. His inner city style doesn't fit in this part of the nation. Let's just go get Bobby Gonzalez, he did a great job at Manhattan then flamed out at Seton Hall...pretty much the same coach in my opinion.

I think Pastner and Smart would be good hires. I'm fine with Kruger, too. If he doesn't have younger assistants who can relate better to the players, he can hire them.

I'm not sure how I feel about Frascilla. I like him as a commentator, but confess to a lack of knowledge about his abilities as a coach. I would think that the recognition factor nationally would serve him well as a recruiter, though.

Let's see...suppose you were coaching at D1 institution, like Illinois and making 800K per year. And then along comes an NBA franchise offering you multiple millions. Which would you choose?

The reason he's moved so much is because other places offer him huge contracts to come and do what he did at KSU, Florida, and Illinois. He wasn't ready for the NBA game and he failed, but how many coaches at the Atlanta Hawks have been a success? I don't recall Red Auerbach coaching there or Phil Jackson.

Then how about you read some of the excellent info that B.O.B. has provided and educate yourself?
Because it doesn't matter. Florida started off sucking and when he left they were sucking again. he had one year that was stellar and the rest were NIT or nothing. He followed Lou Henson at Illinois and had roughly the same winning percentage.

He has been very good at UNLV. The longest he has stayed at once job is UNLV, where he has been for the last seven years.

All this to me speaks of a good but not great coach that can consistently get you 20 wins and a tourney bid, then leave for another job after a few years. I don't hate the idea, I'm just saying it's not the ejaculatory ultra-experience that some are saying it is.

He's been coaching a long time, man. That's a long time to be "finding better opportunities" every five years. You think we're a destination? What makes us so different from Illinois or Florida? UNLV? Sure we're a better program than most, but you're fooling yourself if you think he'll stay.

AGAIN. It's not a BAD move. Just not a OMGWTFBBQAWESOME one. Geez, people.

I think Fran is the better option of these two to rebuild a program. I'm not saying he is my first choice by any means, but IMO he is a better choice than most of the other names being thrown around for where the program is at right now. I would rather have Kruger than Fran, but wouldn't be disappointed if we did end up with Fran.
