Julius Randle Chooses...

OK...so they had good players, they always have good players but that team wasn't as good as this one. That team was a 3 seed in the NCAA and lost in the sweet 16. This years team will at least get to the regional final and probably the final 4.

What you don't seem to understand is you can't just throw together 5 good players and expect them to be a team. This is probably why you are such a big Capel fan because he didn't understand this either. So the morris twins were good players, and Aldrich was a good college player and so was Collins but that team was the worst KU team under Self except for probably his first 2 when he was playing with Roy's players.

Your the one that thinks we should have been good after losing everyone and bringing in a good recruiting class and having a injured Warren. you really are unbelievable

Does that make the conference better now since you pointed that out?

At this point no, but everyone going into this year thought West Virginia would be a lot better than they were. If I remember correctly they were picked to finish 3rd or 4th by most of the "experts" and I dont think they will be down for too long. TCU could be better than A&M in a few years who knows. But for the most part in the Big XII, except for Kansas, basketball, unfortunately, is used just to tide folks over till spring football.

Your the one who can't comprehend, but we knew that already. :facepalm

It seems you fail to understand the entire story sometimes. The reason we brought in Arent is because we had 3 post players..Osby, Fitz and the juco kid from Stringtown. The previous coach was such a stellar recruiter he left us with nothing and he had no plans to sign anybody because nobody wanted to come here. So, calling Arent the "2nd best" recruit is nuts. He was just another body to help take minutes as the season went along.

And, Thompson was in a class of 6 because we had players leaving the program, we were going on probation, and again nobody wanted to come play at the dumpster fire known as OU basketball. Enter Thompson and Neal and whoever else was in that loaded class.

I bet if Kruger was coaching Kentucky this year they would have not only made it into the tournament but made it to the final 4 this year.

I think the point people are trying to make is that, if Kruger were at Kentucky, he might have recruited differently compared to Calipari. Kruger's classes would probably be nowhere near as good, but Kruger likely would put together a team that plays well together and one in which all the individual players understand their roles.

So CLK is a better coach than Calipari? I'm so lost here, hopefully I'm not alone.

Here is where I think I end up, OU will probably never recruit like UK, particularly with the NCAA issues leftover from Sampson and Capel, BUT we made the NCAA in CLK's second year. Feels good.

Since everyone is ganging up on bgrch1350, I'll come to his defense on one of his points, anyway. I would bet no one in the Big 8 (except for one school) wanted Wayman to go to OU. I'm also quite certain only one team wanted Danny Manning to go to Kansas the following year. However, NO TWO PLAYERS have had more of an impact on ELEVATING the competition within the Big 8 / Big XII than Tisdale and Manning. That is why it would not have upset me to see Randle go to a rival. The more great players that go to one of our rivals, the better it will be for us down the line in recruiting as the bar gets raised.

With that said, I'll confess to likely getting a good night's sleep tonight in spite of Randle's decision. :)

Calipari just won a national championship, I'm sure he knows how to get players to play together.

I get his point and I agree I wouldn't have been upset had Randle chosen ISU, WVU, Baylor, TCU, Tech, or even KSU. Those programs need to improve (not KSU) to help the conference, but no way would I have been satisfied if he had chosen KU, Texas or OSU.

However, his point that it would be good for the conference if KU landed Randle, is completely wrong because this conference needs more parity. We need other teams to win the conference crown besides KU so we need them to come back closer to the pack and for the other programs to improve, like it was in the early part of the 2000's when ISU, OU, KU, Texas, and OSU all won or tied for the conference title and had elite 8 runs (in a 3-4 year timespan), and Tech was a yearly tournament team. That's what we need, not for KU to widen the gap between them and the other conference teams. We don't want basketball to be considered like the old Big 8 football was with OU, NU, and 6 little teams. We need all programs to get better and for KU to come back to the pack and if they had signed Randle that is not what would have happened.
