Just returned home from the game, random thoughts

[Big Old Booger]

1.) we played horrible vs the press. That sequence with Walker and Cousins making 2-3 turnovers in a row with horrible passes put us behind by quite a bit.

2.) Cousins has to grow up and stop getting childish technicals. He cost us the game because instead of us retaining the ball, WVa get's 2 FT's and the ball. They scored a 3 I believe on the possession.

3.) James played really well and shows he should be getting Walker's minutes.

4.) Missed possession arrow is inexcusable, refs should have to answer for that.

5.) Walker was horrific tonight. He really hurt us.

6.) Why did we have the smallest guy on the court throwing the ball in after a made shot by WV? Woodard and then Walker, it didn't work.

7.) James is a cool cucumber when dealing with the press. He was the story of the game.

8.) Its official...I don't like WV being in our conference. They just don't fit in and their fans are bigger rednecks than any other fan base and that says a lot.

9.) How did WV go the first 12 minutes without getting a single foul called on them?

10.) Iowa State fans were telling us after the game "Spangler has a history of missing shots late in the game". Am I missing something? It's only happened twice. We have 2 players who can start for every team and he's one of them. If Niang or Perry had half the heart and played with half the hustle of Spangler they would be all world type players.

11.) We didn't deserve to win the way we played so passive vs the press.

12.) KU fans were cheering for us to win, I don't ever recall that happening.

13.) OU fans were loud down the stretch when OU was making the comeback.

14.) Walker killed us tonight. He has to stay on the bench.

as far as taking the ball out on a press...

couple of things for me.

#1 we have no real press breaker...we just run around

#2 I understand a guard taking the ball out, gives an immediately outlet back BUT why the smallest?

#3 waiting for a guard to come get the ball to take it out, allowed wv to "set up"...get the ball in quick and go. IF our guards, Cousins, Woodard, even Buddy (then he has the ball) get the ball then turn and haul a$$ they'll foul running besides them...

James played well...def gives up a bigger line-up. Cousins, James, Buddy, Spangler and Lattin. I can't imagine Woodard sitting but see James coming in for the first sub.

Walker really had some bad plays last night. Looks like Manyang and McNeace will get some sub minutes..that helps with size

#3. Great point. It totally allows them to set up. We did not attack their press at all. I was most disappointed in this part of the game plan.

We also must have a better plan/idea when the other team chooses to face guard Buddy and take him out of the game. We took advantage of them not helping off of Buddy once or twice but not enough to make them rethink their defense.

I think if we had attacked more Buddy would have gotten more opportunities. For some reason we played very passive until the last 5 minutes.
