Kansas State/OU

Our two most consistent and reliable players right now are Peyton and Gabbi.

After watching K-State twice recently, I was concerned about this game. They may be in a lucky streak with those threes, but they are hitting them right now. I'm glad to have this one behind us.

Peyton and Gabbi had good games. I'm glad that Kay Kay was able to stay on the floor. I sure hope Gioya's shot returns soon. It can make a difference. We worked hard for this win.

If consistency means anything Peyton Little is our best player. Does it on both ends of the floor every game.

I thought Peyton had two 3s today but they only have her credited with one.

Sharane and Gioya combined for only 7 points today. Hopefully, they have their shots going Wednesday or I don't see any way we can beat Baylor.

We are going to need everyone doing what they do against Baylor. The upside
for Gioya is in the last two games she has played well other than the balls not falling. I really wished they had not done the big spread on her with the interview at the women's basketball website. I thought it was a little early. They had been heaping praise on her before and I thought that was enough...something like that can put pressure on you. NOT saying that is what happened but still, I thought the accolades she was receiving was plenty. Do that when the season is over. Also, I wish she would have shot more threes today. Was she not open? I was only able to listen to the game.

Really happy for Nicole that she was able to come in and get some continuous minutes and was able to score.

LaNesia reminds me of Gioya last year. She is still a freshman. T'ona has had some good minutes off the bench and if she doesn't do anything spectacular herself on offense, she is a pretty good defender and if she doesn't make any mistakes on the offense, she at the least gives Gabbi a rest and also some time to watch the game. Both LaNesia and T'ona have had good games in conference play. I was surprised that Maddie did not play more. Believe it would be difficult to be the coach and decide who and when to sub-out and who to sub-in with the players we have. I would still like to see Derica get more minutes and see what she can do. However, maybe it needs to be when we play with a decent lead that she can go in for
Peyton or Gioya and see how she does.

At Sherri's post game, she mentioned that the kids did what they wanted them to do in attacking the zone, except they took maybe one too many dribbles and should have settled for the quick jump shots. Kaylon hurt herself by having a horrible day at the glass, just could not convert lay-ups. Sherri answered a question about Nicole. It has been her defense that has kept her off the floor. Today she proved she could stay in front of her defensive assignment and held her own. Sherri said if she can continue to do that she will get more time on the floor. As far as Maddie, I just think Nicole was playing so well, that Sherri went with the hot hand. We sill see Maddie Weds. I think she will be ready to go against the Bears. I look for Maddie to have a big game in Waco.

We should have won by an easy 15 points, the ball just would not fall off the glass today. The girls did what they had to do and came away with a hard fought win.

We have to beat Baylor twice or hope for help to win the conference. This is gut-check time.

Nobody is going to beat Baylor. We have to do it twice or finish second. The job is clear.

Curiously, I like our chances in the NCAA better than theirs. They seem to stumble when they shouldn't.

Baylor hasn't lost the conference title in what, four or five seasons? I'm glad that we are in their way, because they haven't played us yet.

We'll take care of that situation soon.

I think that Maddie got pulled for turnovers- had 4 the game before- got pulled after 1. Think Sherri is trying to coach that out of her.

I think Sherri is likely to be more tolerant of Maddie's turnovers than of others because they occur when Maddie is trying to make something happen. Some have been officials or scorekeeping errors.

I think it may have been more what K-State was doing. They had the middle packed in where you weren't going to drive to the rim, and I don't know that Sherri, especially after watching her explanation, wanted to take it to the rim. She didn't want them challenging Lewis, but shooting jump shots that she couldn't block. She was a bit unhappy that we were turning down good shots. Going through Lewis was non-productive. For this game, Nicole actually made sense. She hit two threes that were key.

It wasn't just Nicole that spelled her though. Lenesia and Nicole both came in on Maddies rotation for Gioya or Sharane. That 15-10 minute mark of both halves she comes in. I think that its a coaching move to get the best out of Maddie. She has unparralled ability that needs to be coached up some. You don't completely take Maddie off the court in a close game on defensive ability alone- she can stand there and be a bigger contributor than most cause her length/athleticism. I think it was the turnovers, and maybe some x's and o's.

Treece also got some PT on Vivis normal rotation and Derica was first off the bench.

When is the last time OU beat Baylor anywhere or in Waco?

It's sadly been so long that I've forgotten. I was at the LNC game where we nearly beat em at home D Rob's senior year and remembered thinking it had been a long time then :(
