kim mulkey

I haven't been a women's basketball fan that long, other then Pokey Chatman what coaches have openly said they have a problem with Kim?

Muffett was not too happy:

Six months after appearing in the national championship game for the 2nd straight season, has Muffet's Squad gotten over the sting of losing to Baylor?

"No," Irish women's basketball coach Muffet McGraw said with a long pause Thursday at basketball Media Day. "We have not."

"I think for a lot of reasons, not the least of which was what happened after and what came out after, I think it made it harder to swallow," McGraw continued, referring to some NCAA violations against Baylor that came out a few weeks after the national title game.

Tech fans displays a lot of her incidents.

1. I'm sure Sherri hasn't forgotten that ridiculous situation involving Stevenson. She just won't stoop to Skeletor's level in rehashing it.

2. It SO pisses me off that people who don't know me, try to interpret "what I really mean" when I say I can't stand the raisin-faced witch from Waco. I didn't like her when we were laying beatdowns on them with some regularity. And I'd never be jealous of someone like her, because she's a bigger loser in the game of life than most people will ever be.

Yes! I'd forgotten that it was reported in the media. I thought only us that were there saw it.

--In March 2003, the Daily Oklahoman had an article about a comment in a post-game press conference after OU beat BU in Norman. OU apparently kept shooting three pointers even after they had a sizeable lead at the end of the game and Mulkey didn't like it. Quote from the article:

In the postgame press conference, BU coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson vented her displeasure with an OU's bench player's final bucket, the only points the sophomore guard had on the night with an unsolicited complaint and a threat:

"Let me ask you something," said Kim Mulkey-Robertson. "When I have a lead at the end of a game, you ever see me take a shot?"

Maybe not at the end of the game, but the BU coach took a shot with a threat in the postgame:

"What goes around comes around in this league," she said.

Also, I'm sure she's not a big fan of Karen Aston after last year when in a game in Big 12 tourney, Hypocrite U was ahead of whorns by about 20 with 1:17 minutes left and she removed her starters and Karen left hers in and they cut the lead to 11 points. Sulkey was NOT happy about that and in game this year in Wacko, she left the starters in the whole game, except to put bench seniors in with about 2 minutes left in a 27 point win.

I get the impression that Kim Mulkey is about as well-liked in the coaching profession as Ted Cruz is in the Senate!

smh.

Taking off clothes on the court again.
This is why I say Baylor might not be as good next year, without Niya Johnson- they have some personalities with no real glue to hold them together...
Nina Davis seems like a person that COULD fill that role of being the glue, but I'm not sure on that one.

And I don't think Alexis Jones is a PG that fits with a bunch of other scorers, she will need to ball too much. I haven't seen Christy Wallace handle ball pressure, so I'm not sure she fits well ether.... Could be chaotic.

If Mulkey did the stripping thing in front of too many men, they'd yell, "Put it back!" - not "Take it off!" :ez-roll:

I can't speak for anyone else but my comments about Kim have nothing to do with jealousy. My opinion of Kim is based upon the fact that I'm a Mom of girls who used to play basketball. I look at every coach I see and think to myself, "Would I want a daughter or grand-daughter of mine to play for this coach?" I see a lot of coaches that I would like to have a relative of mine play for. Kim does not fall into that category.

I agree. My issues with Kim stem from the fact that she is representing a Baptist University. One that supposedly has Christian values and tenets. Whether or not she is a Baptist or a Christian is irrelevant. Her employer IS affiliated with the Baptists.

I don't like Kim because her attitude, coaching tactics and affinity for "working the recruiting system (i.e., cheating)". Her sideline and postgame behavior is atrocious and uncalled for. I am not talking about "normal" histrionic coaching...many coaches do that and there is nothing wrong with passion. It is the throwing of clothes, the stomping onto the court and other over the top behavior that causes the world to laugh at her. Verbally accosting players from other teams...I just have no words for that kind of behavior.

I am just as disappointed in Baylor University as I am in Kim Mulkey (she was my favorite player when I was in high school). They allow her to represent them in this manner. How many nameless fans out there who now say, "if that's the way Christians act, I want no part of it".

So, Oliver, please don't accuse people of being jealous. If Kim was such a "great" coach, then why didn't they win? Why did they only get 1 natty with Griner? She has great players...she.can.recruit! Coach? Eh. She's okay.

Well said, giraffespots.

I'm sure it caused hurt some feelings among certain board members, but you nailed it with your description of Kim, her antics and the quality of her coaching.

Mulkey is normally pretty good at beating opponents who are physically inferior to her Bears. However, match BU against a well-coached team that also happens to be tall and reasonably athletic, and Kim looks lost. When her Bears could not shake OSU early, Mulkey panicked and she had no strategy to answer what her opponents were doing. It became apparent even before halftime that Baylor would likely lose that game.

It was somewhat like watching Mike Tyson get beat by Buster Douglas, or Ronda Rousey get schooled by that young woman who took her title a few months ago. Stand up to a bully and that is often what happens.

You have to keep in mind that It was Os team and that Davis was a big surprise that year... Jones doesn't seem like a kid who can take 12+ shots a game and still get the ball to Davis and Now Cox... It's a reason why she never played point guard at Duke.

When I saw Davis get mugged and nothing was called I couldn't blame Mulkey for ripping off her Jacket, I personally like it when a Coach gets a T it normally fires a team up.... Even Geno at times has lost his cool and CD has had to grab him and hold him back...

Jones didn't play PG at Duke mainly b/c she was injured and Chelsea Gray occupied that spot. Not sure how much Lauren will have right out the gate but both MP and Brown will continue to get better and they are big targets so feeding them shouldn't be that difficult. Plus, I think Alexis will step up and be the leader on the court along with Nina. Who knows Choo may play a little PG as well if she can protect the ball.

Yes the no call on Nina was just as bad as the foul on Wiese at the end of the game where she clearly slipped and fell into Brown who was still with her hands straight up. Either way if we hit our FTs neither call would of carried much weight.

I agree most people are saying Kim lost the game because of her Tect, but the FT line is what did the Bears in...

You're fantasizing now, gm. There were at least 16 fouls by BU that were not called - some very, very rough. Maybe you would be advised to bring up 8 or 10 of those.

BU simply chocked and lost in the Elite 8........ once again.

They are an embarrassment to the conference on so many levels. When your coach makes a laughing stock of herself, then loses her ability to even think or coach due to emotional issues, the team really gets damaged.

I guarantee if we start beating them regularly ever again these comments and threads diminish by 75 percent unless she does something spectacularly crazy in a game against us.

FIFY.

The things she did first came to people's attention in our games, but then there were more and more things publicized that happened in other games.

Someday, her inner Bobby Knight or Woody Hayes will completely take over.

There are two distinct schools of opinion on her:

1) She wins a lot of games so nothing else matters.

or

2) Her behavior is way too overboard and I would never want her or anyone like her to coach my team.

The two sides are never going to agree.

She's crazy every game. More crazy if things aren't going perfectly. Even if things are perfect, she looks like she dresses herself at an arts and crafts store, so there's always that... or is there a shiny gold metallic store I'm unaware of

Now that was about as good as anything I have read about this subject. :ez-roll: :ez-laugh: :ez-roll:

These threads would be non-existent now if it weren't for some posters on this board who accept her as a model and wish that we had her instead of Sherri.

Well, Syb, I really hope you don't count me as one of those.

I do not want Mulkey or anyone like her near our program.

But I also don't think, as some
posters on this board do, that she is the anti-Christ.

Luckily, I think most of us chased off at least one person from this site who was really banging the drum for how great it'd be to have Mulkey at OU. I remember one person in particular got offended when I said Sherri was infinitely more attractive than Mulkey. I guess that was a bit too much truth for that person to face.

Somebody needs to wake up and smell the roses. At least we MADE the Elite 8 for the 3rd consecutive time! When or IF OU ever makes it that far again then you can make comments regarding our level of performance. How bout winning a conference title first! You need to lay off the sour grapes, Sweet OU Girl!
