Kobe Bryant

Only his 13 yo daughter Gianna. On the way to her basketball practice.

Yep, another another player on the team and at least one of her parents. That accounts for 4, or possibly all 5.

It depends on whether or not Kobe was the pilot... I haven't heard definitive word yet.

Yes, ESPN and other news sources are confirming that now.

I’m at a loss for words! As a lifelong Laker fan, Kobe was one of my favorite players ever. So sad that he’s gone now! Even worse that his 13 years old daughter died with him.

RIP Mamba!

So sad, Mamba Mentality is something I say almost daily. Prayers go out to everyone affected.

The LA County Sheriff reported that there were 9 people on board!

Man, this one is tough.

I love basketball, and sports in general, and this one rocks the whole sport. I'm old enough to remember a lot of legends move on but this has to be the most shocking and sad day I remember in sports.

Honestly, I used to really really dislike him. Being a Sixers fan as a very young kid and the Dr. J days it was easy to hate the Lakers. But over the years and seeing how he battled through injuries, played through anything, worked harder than anyone else, and learned from his mistakes to become a better man, husband, and father, I grew to like him a lot. Will always remember his last game and was kind of teary-eyed then. It doesn't even compare to what today has been like. Yes, I am still a Sixers fan, but if I had to pick anyone I wanted to take that last shot, it would have been Mamba.

Not many athletes are known worldwide by just their first name. Kobe was and will be forever.

RIP Kobe. Mamba Forever.

Well said. As a lifelong Laker fan, I always had KB as my #2 all time behind Magic. As I got older, I appreciated his greatness more, and he became easily my favorite Laker.

I kinda worried about his exit from hoops, would he become an old, bitter critic of everything hoops related because of his high standards, but since he retired I have enjoyed seeing him grow as a father, mentor, and all around great supporter and motivator of so many people from all walks of life.

This is certainly heartbreaking and even more so knowing his daughter and other people died as well.....

Don't let only tragedies to be a cause for you to post as your judgements are needed here. Please post here more often.

Kobe Bean Bryant. Wow.

As a devout Sonics fan, I never rooted for the Lakers. But I respected the warrior within Kobe Bryant. He was such a unique individual. He had so much left to give, and that's what makes this such a punch in the gut. His life was in good shape: as a man, as a father and as a husband. He was doing incredible things all over the world and I couldn't wait to see what else that eccentric brain of his produced.

What a shame. May peace one day come to all the families affected.

Lakers playing their first game since Kobe's death tonight. This is gonna be hard. I'd be shocked if I hold back tears.
