Kruger final grade - D

B- to no worse than a C+ (reasons for the grade can be found in my posts)

How can a 5-14 Big XII record get a B-? With a losing record to the 2 worst teams in the conference?

I could understand an incomplete grade, but does he get an A next year for going 9-10 in the Big XII on your generous scale?

Why would you ask those questions when I have already pointed you to the answers?

You obviously believe my grade is too high. I'm just as convinced that your grade is too low. Guess we'll have to agree to disagree until next year.

If Pledger and Fitz are starters again, 9 wins is a A.

Again, the reason for the second half collapses is depth. The starting five can't all play 40 minutes which is why OU lost games late. I can think of several where some depth would have turned the tide - Cincinnati, A&M in College Station, Texas in Austin, and maybe Mizzou at home. The only game where OU didn't show up was in Lubbock - If Boca wants to blame a game on Kruger - that is the game.

I do think M'Baye is the real deal - much greater stats at Wyoming than Osby had at Miss State. Next year - OU should have 3 post players who can play in Fitzgerald, Osby, and M'Baye and 5 guards/wings who can play in Grooms, Pledger, Clark, Hield, and Hornbeak. Then you have some experience deeper on the bench with Neal and Blair. It would be nice to get another juco post since Henry won't make it in, however, I really think we ought to pocket the scholarship for next year's class.

Capel had a lot of guys on the roster who are not D-1 players.

I give him a A+ for leaving UNLV (a top 20 that he had built) to pick up a major mess created by Jeff Capel at OU.

By the way, last time I checked OU did not have a losing record against Texas Tech.

Picked to finish 9th in the conference by the people that know the most (the coaches in the conference) finished 8th. Seems to me you are just an idiot who loved caple for doing less with way more talent 2 two years ago.

Final Grade C-

Very disappointed in the lack of improvement, but I was never one of the ones who thought LK would wave a magic wand because of what he did at other schools, and we would be on top.

We have alot of work to do, and I hope we see steady improvement starting next season. My concern was always LK really didn't want the job, and had to be kind of coaxed by Joe C into taking it. In the back of my mind I always remember that, because I know the results when someone is doing something they really didn't have a burning desire to do....

I believe LK is a professional, and I believe we will get better. How much better, I'm not sure. The Big 12 has some decent hoops teams/traditions. What KS accomplished here was amazing, if not under appreciated. Time will tell how close to his ceiling LK can come, if he sticks around.....

Finally! Thank you. It was like pulling teeth. "B- to no worse than a C+" = C? You could have saved yourself a few key strokes by tapping the C key. Did you grade on a bell curve?

C.

Losing Newell really hurt but from the sounds of it he needed to go so. We had some pitiful performances but we had a lot of games where we faded down the stretch that we shoulda had. Still have high expectations for next year as our guys mature, I mean the juniors on this team never had a taste of winning yet.

Well, excuse me for keeping you waiting, your highness! :ez-laugh:

I graded on my curve. That's MY, as in a method of evaluating a coach I created myself. It's a fairer way to judge a coach's worth than the SID or boca methodology.

If you had told me before the season started that we'd lose Newell a few games into the season, and that Cam and Neal wouldn't be able to hit the ocean from a boat, I probably would not have predicted an 8th place finish. With what he had to work with, in his first year, I'd give LK a B-. Sure there was room for improvement, but we lost a handful of games simply b/c we didn't have a second guard that could score. That isn't on LK, unless you think he somehow "ruined" Cam and Neal's shots. I don't believe that to be true, but really, I don't think there was much room for improvement with the current roster.

As for guys on the team improving individually.....well, I don't see a lot of potential for that either. Grooms is what he is.....a pg that handles the ball okay, but can't shoot it. Pledger is what he is.....a 2/3 that is mostly a shooter, and in the right situations can do a bit more than that. Cam is what he is.....a good athlete with limited basketball skills. And so on and so on.

I would say prior to the last 10 games this team had performed remarkably well. I think anyone who thought Kruger would come in and there would be an amazing improvement immediately were a bit naive. Kruger has never had huge improvements his first year. But, if you look at his 2-4 years there is an amazing amount of improvement.
I am a bit disappointed in the losing record. I thought there were winnable games down the stretch that would put us in the NIT. But it didn't happen so I give Kruger a C.
Fact is this program is a mess from Sampson and Capel. We have two extremely solid players right now who have played in a game. Clark and Osby are the real deal. I don't know what happened to Fitz down the stretch but he just didn't look like the same guy. Pledger pretty well disappeared.
Anyone who wants to look at todays roster and be scared to death of what is going to happen two years from now is plain crazy. This roster will change dramatically after next year and you could see some guys who have been playing tons of minutes have their minutes significantly reduced next year. I believe in Kruger and believe he is going to bring in some playmakers. There is no doubt in my mind we will win 20 games next year. We may be in the NIT but that's not so bad, IMO. We'll get there!

It really doesn't matter as this is a useless exercise to pass the time.

We both hope for the same thing next season.

LOL It only took you three days and ten posts to give us your final grade. If I had teachers like you when I was in school, I would have been a straight A student. You have convinced me to change my final grade. C- to no worse than a D ( reasons for the grade can be found in your posts)

If you had a teacher like me when you were in school, you would have been a much nicer person. Smarter, too. ;)

My grade is whatever Joe C decides is the grade. I put my faith in Joe C, the greatest Athletic Director of all time, and a great man. Whatever his grade, I'll follow.

Smarter or sorer? LOL I'm going to talk with Boca and see if he wants to take you up on your offer. After downing a few drinks, I should be able to teach you a thing or two about the mental aspects of basketball.

I didn't see what I wanted to see. Let's see what he can do with another year or so. I would like to see a smarter team, if not a more winning team.

My grade is a D.

Just about anybody everybody on this board thought this roster and this coach would do more than 15-16. After the 10-2 start some of this board were talking NCAA. So to lose as many games as we did, especially all the home games, and losing to 1-17 Texas Tech, one of the worst teams in Big 12 history was a really poor job.

I didnt expect Kruger to come in a solve all the problems like flipping a light switch because I dont blame Capel for all the problems of the world. But I expected a coach with a solid resume like Kruger to have this team full of 4-star junior's at at 18-20 wins and an NIT appearance.
