I'm neither fat nor "derpy," and definitely not a Kansan (I do admit to being old), but I too would be offended if I took my family to what was billed as a basketball event and witnessed the "entertainment" that's been described.

If that makes me backwards and scary, so be it.

I genuinely don't know the answer, so these are just questions, but wasn't this one of those midnight events? From what I've heard, they held this event at the very end, so are we talking about a Snoop Dogg concert at 2 or 3 AM? I wouldn't take my family to that, even if it was billed as basketball-related.

It wasn't at midnight, it started at either 6 or 7, but you are correct in that the concert was the final event of the night. Anyone who chose to stay clearly should have known it might not be appropriate for all ages. That said, it was still questionable judgment at the least to think that particular concert was a good idea for that venue, especially given the surrounding circumstances.

The event was from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

That makes more sense. I usually hear these things called "Midnight Madness" often, but I wasn't sure if it was true to its name. Given the situation, it's not a great look for KU. I question anybody's judgement that thought a Snoop Dogg concert was going to be family-friendly, though. The main issue is that they're begging the NCAA to come down on them. I would never back a large dog into a corner, even if said dog was scared of its own shadow.

The most important thing in these people's lives is the performance on the basketball court of a bunch of black teenagers, but showcase the music and culture of those black teenage kids and it's a horror.

Agree. Also implies that all white midwestern basketball fans are horrified by "black" culture. Seems like painting both cultures with an awfully broad brush.

My sense from reading many of the stories is that most of the people who were upset were not offended or "horrified" by Snoop himself. I don't think these people are going out and protesting Snoop concerts. I think they just didn't feel like it was an appropriate venue for the show, and they blame KU, not Snoop. I suspect they would have the same feelings if it had been Motley Crew performing "Girls, Girls, Girls" with stripper poles.

That was terrible & James Franklin had a great response.

On those I'm always skeptical if the person who wrote it isn't from another school posing as a different fan. That may be way off base but I'm pretty sure that's happened before where they found the fan & he was actually part of a different fan base.

I just read that Penn State letter -- that can't possibly be real, can it? He might stop watching over tattoos, dreads, etc...but was able to ignore child molestation?

I’m not arguing that the person didn’t mean it or that it’s a Penn State fan. I just said I remember an instance where that’s happened when an opposing fan posed as another.

Also, re: blue blood vs. non blue blood. Mary Hardin Baylor just had to vacate a football national title because some of their players were borrowing an old Subaru. Yet everyone with a brain knows 5-6 figures are changing hands for every recruit going to the Dukes, Kansas, Arizona, UNC's of the world, yet none of those programs ever seem to have to vacate anything.

But claiming with no evidence that EVERY player on the roster of the best 10 or however many programs was bought is irresponsible, even on a message board.

I agree it's probably less common in football, but I also think there is a lot of hypocrisy out there. Tons of fans are convinced that their favorite school is clean, while maintaining that almost everyone else is cheating. My opinion on this has been consistent for years. I'd legitimately be interested in hearing your response to what I pointed out in my reply, but it seems whenever we disagree, you just claim I'm arguing solely for the sake of arguing.

About OU football? It wouldn't shock me if we were, but aside from the current freshman class, we haven't been landing the elite level recruits that are the equivalent of the guys getting money in hoops. So if we are cheating, we're not doing a very good job at it.
