Lecturing Oregon star shows the bratty sanctimony of Mike Krzyzewski

Not sure why it warms the cockles of my heart to watch him walk off the court with that "well crap" look on his face but it does.

Coach K is obviously a multi-decade coaching legend, and I can imagine after all that time it would be hard to not have an enormous ego.

The Coach K revealed in this article is the one people in North Carolina who know him say he really is on a personal level. Great coach, but a foul-mouthed, arrogant jerk in real life. One thing is certain, he is a whiner deluxe who is accustomed to getting his share of questionable calls in Duke's favor following one of his tirades. We have all been a witness to it countless times over the years.

I can't stand Duke or their coach! Did my heart good to see them struggle this season and than go out early in the NCAA tourney.

I remember the Coach K who was right by Jim Valvano's side during his last days. The Coach K who helped him to the stage for his ESPY speech and then back to his chair after it was over. The Coach K who, along with his wife, comforted Valvano's wife/family during those days and after he passed away.

The guy isn't perfect but nobody is perfect. I'm sure if he felt the need to speak to Brooks maybe Brooks deserved it and he said so at the end of the article.

Nobody knows what happens behind closed doors and I'm sure the players who make mistakes on the court, like Grayson Allen and Laettner, have dealt with Coach K regarding their mistakes. In the 30 for 30 documentary, "I hate Christian Laettner", Christian spoke about how much he appreciated Coach K and how much he had learned from him. Children usually have more respect for elders that teach them right from wrong. I can't imagine they would feel that way about Coach K if he just let them do what they wanted without retribution.

Just my opinion.

He threw up a shot as the shot clock was expiring. If he missed would Coach K really complain? Also to me you should always defend even if a game is basically over. Game isn't officially over till clock goes to 0 seconds. I'm all for a team running up a score if that's the way they play a game.

Kim Mulkey would, but I digress.....

I think the Oregon player was as surprised as everyone else that the shot went in. If he had intended to be a jerk, he would have tried to dunk it. Coach K overreacted.

It was a good thing Duke turned it around this year after some struggles early. I was convinced another back surgery loomed on the horizon for Shashevski.

You tend to find jerks among the greatest at anything. Unfortunately it tends to be a very common characteristic among the truly brilliant in any walk of life.

At that point in the game, with Duke having thrown in the towel, Brooks should have just let the clock run out.

That said, following the final buzzer, Shashevski (thanks, 04--that version I can possibly remember how to spell) ought to have had many other things occupying his genius brain than that three-point shot. Let the kid's own coach talk to him about it (or not) and tend to your own team, Coach S.

i don't know which side of the fence to take on this one. On one hand, I don't believe a coach should lecture an opposing player ever....that is the job of the player's own coach. But, as Bill Self would say, the shot was somewhat of a "d!ck move"...the Oregon player should have just let the shot clock expire. Duke had already conceded the possession (and the game for that matter) and weren't even really guarding/defending.

But it's always nice to see Puke and Coach K walk off the court in defeat.;)

I'm with you on both points.

+1

Frank Mason made a layup as time expired in the KU-Maryland game last night. I always like checking to see if something like this puts the game over the point total in Vegas, but in this case it did not.

Did you hear the comment by the TV analyst after that basket was made?

One of them said something like "I bet that 2 points doesn't matter to anyone", and the other guy said "except Paul Hornung". :ez-laugh:

NOTE: Hornung was suspended from the NFL for gambling.

This.

Everybody hates a winner. Coach K. Bob Knight. Dean Smith. Calipari. Very few overly successful coaches are immune. People hated Switzer. People don't like Saban and Meyer.

For the most part, it's a bunch of crap.
