Looks like Toby Rowland is the new PBP guy

I heard the other day that Bob turned it down. It was third hand, so who knows, but I heard that Bob doesn't want the job.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

He would have to move from Tulsa to do that. He liked the oppurtunity as a retirment job but isn't ready to give up his gig with the nationals right now.

It has been confirmed by newsok.com he is the new play-by-play guy. Does he even have experience being a play-by-play guy?

You would rather have Toby than Bob?

Wow.

I don't listen to the radio broadcasts since they are on the TV every game now so no real impact on me.

I've heard both and I love Toby's delivery and his voice is really good, too.

That few minutes he called in the CU game while Bob was getting ready to be honored at the upcoming halftime was really good. I think he will do really well and I'm looking forward to listening to him.

I actually think we should've hired the golden voice drunken hobo guy

FWIW - Bob Carpenter said on the radio in Tulsa he has not been contacted about the OU job, despite being down there to do coaches shows and the like. He acts like he really wants the job, so it would be suprising to me if he turned it down.

I like Bob a lot. Very professional, funny and has tons of experience. He would be a good fit, in my opinon. But given his radio comments he doesn't even believe he is a candidate. And, it did not sound like "coach speak"

Texas has a great PBP guy in Craig Way. Their color guy Keith Moorland is taking over for the late Ron Santos as the Cubs PBP guy and we hire a guy who is better suited for high school sporting events.

Why the heck didn't we hire a top notch guy like we had when John Brooks did the broadcast. Its a freakin joke.

just your opinion. i disagree completely.

Would you rather us go and get somebody that doesn't have any connections to OU?

Who cares about voice?
As long as the guy can correctly tell you the correct score of the game and the correct name of who scored, he is a perfect replacement of the guy who had "a unique voice" but could not tell the correct score or who scored.
Bob Barry was horrible.

John Brooks is amateur Hockey/Div 3 sports guy. He was vastly overrated.

I don't know if I like Toby as the PBP guy, he hasn't done a full football game before. He's done okay in the women's bball he's had on TV though. I'll give the guy a chance. I usually listen to games on radio and watch on TV because the TV announcers all suck.

Still wish we had "Good ole J.R." for football. I'd listen to every game.

But I think you can look back and see that J.R. did do some stuff with the XFL.

How about Robert Allen??? He was sportscaster for Channel 4 for years!!!

Are you old to have listened to John Brooks in the 70s and 80s? I don't know one single person who didn't like the way he did the broadcast.

Amateur Hockey? Good one.

John Brooks is the owner of Sportscast Productions, a company he founded in 1971. The company has promoted and managed local and national sports events, produced radio and television sports programming and is the largest running independent contractor with the NCAA – providing audio and video services to NCAA National Championships for 34 years. Brooks has been the play-by-play announcer for more than 2,800 radio and television broadcasts of collegiate and professional football, basketball, baseball, and hockey games.
He is notable among Sooner Fans for his 16 years as “Voice” of the University of Oklahoma football and basketball radio networks and among hockey fans for his 27 years of professional play-by-play of the hockey franchises in Oklahoma City and San Diego. In 2000, Brooks won the Coca-Cola/Powerade National Sportscast of the Year for a series of one-hour programs called “Oklahoma Classic Memories.” He is the author of “Bobby Bright’s Greatest Christmas Ever” children’s book which will debut in November.

The only thing that Brooks has done since leaving OU is amateur hockey and lower div college sports. If he were a big time voice he would have been picked up by some other big college.
