Looks like Toby Rowland is the new PBP guy

The only thing that Brooks has done since leaving OU is amateur hockey and lower div college sports. If he were a big time voice he would have been picked up by some other big college.

Big time or not.... he was THE voice of Oklahoma Football, and he was @$#% good at it!

Texas has a great PBP guy in Craig Way. Their color guy Keith Moorland is taking over for the late Ron Santos as the Cubs PBP guy and we hire a guy who is better suited for high school sporting events.

Why the heck didn't we hire a top notch guy like we had when John Brooks did the broadcast. Its a freakin joke.

Who was Craig Way before Texas hired him?

I had never heard of him...it's not like he was Chuck Cooperstein, or Walter Cronkite.

Before Walter Cronkite was Walter Cronkite, he was the voice of OU football.

I know...that's why I threw that name out there. I figured some of these young'ens on the board would question why I mentioned his name.

I think he left OU to become the PBP guy for Texas, if I remember correctly.

Frackin Whorn....LOL!

He's a color announcer not a PBP guy. He's never done PBP in any sport.

J.R. and I have talked about this on many many occasions. J.R. did play by play in the XFL and Atlanta Falcons games. Tonight J.R. said Toby was a one size fits all choice versus a s-xl. He was very complimentary.

I heard earlier this week that Toby was the guy but didn't feel strong enough to post it yet. I think the price they got Tony for was substantially less than Carpenter which may be why he did not even get an interview. Toby will also save them some money because he has a lot of production experience earlier in his career and produces the blitz. Toby is a gamble like Capel was at 600k.He has zilch play by play experience relatively speaking. Maybe this one works. BTW sorry but I think the trend continues when we hire Boyle or Jones. I really think Buzz is a long shot.

BTW I think J.R. would have been incredible.

I think Carpenter probably doesn't want to give up baseball also. I'm sure he'll still do some things for the program. OU basketball TV games, etc.

I think we'll pay up more for a BBall coach. Tad Boyle would be great though. Johnny Jones would be a mistake at best. He's done next to nothing at UNT and Memphis. Terry Evans is a better option than Jones.

FWIW - Bob Carpenter said on the radio in Tulsa he has not been contacted about the OU job, despite being down there to do coaches shows and the like. He acts like he really wants the job, so it would be suprising to me if he turned it down.

I like Bob a lot. Very professional, funny and has tons of experience. He would be a good fit, in my opinon. But given his radio comments he doesn't even believe he is a candidate. And, it did not sound like "coach speak"

Bob is a constant professional. He is not going to make it seem like someone else wasn't the first choice. He has been a family friend for 15 years now and I can tell you he has been contacted by Joe C the last 3 years about taking over when Bob stepped down. It all was about timing and committment. I am just letting you know, he was contacted despite his professional answers on the air.

Toby will do a great job. He likes OU and that is a big part of it. That means he will do his homework and will be great.
