If you haven't gone to UTube and brought up videos of Manyang you should.

The guy is 7-1 with a huge wingspan. Runs the court as well as any 7 footer I have seen and seems to have very good hands. On one play he blocked a shot and then scored a layup on the ensuing fast break.

He is quick off his feet to block shots and has developed the skill to block shots without fouling. Many of his blocks stay on the court.

He also hits some nice 10-15 foot jumpers so he is more than a crip shot and dunk guy.

I don't understand why the real big guys were not on him but I think we will be very happy that he is coming to OU.

Avg a double double. Pts and reb. I'm sure a handful of blocks per game.
Several other D1 bigs on the team.

Is he so good that an early entry into the NBA is imminent? Either after this year or next? Not many NBA teams have 7-footers who can move.

2015-16 Post Depth
> Ryan Spangler ... Senior, 6-8, 231
> Akolda Manyang … Junior, 7-0, 235
> Khadeem Lattin … Sophomore, 6-9, 200 ##
> Jamuni McNeace … RS-Freshman, 6-10, 196 ##

## Hopefully stronger and heavier next season.

Notice how the post players line up nicely for the future, with a senior, junior, sophomore and a redshirt freshman. Adding a post to the 2016 recruiting class would be nice.

I don't think the Sooners have ever been that long in the post. Add Buford to the mix, and we have the nucleus for good, deep post play.

FYI, during the summer practices, Buford always practiced with the guards, and never with the post players. He is projected as a "wing."

With the post depth available now, there is no need to force a "Cam Clark type" to play in the post.

Trav, you confirmed what I have been saying all along about Buford. He was brought in to play the wing. He may swing to the four from time to time, as Cam used to do. But there is no doubt that he was promised a chance to play the three when he signed with OU.

I'm excited about Dante. I think he was the steal of our recruiting class last year. Let's hope his GPA is good enough to earn him the right to practice with the team. I would hate to see him use an entire season of his five to play four confined to individual workouts with no chance to develop his skills through formal practice sessions.

Cam practiced with the guards too, yet he played the 4.

The reason they do it that way is b/c regardless of what position Cam played, he was going to play it more like a guard on offense. Therefore, when going thru offensive drills, it would be silly to have Cam practicing post moves with the bigs. That wasn't his game. Same with Buford.

I can't guarantee Buford won't be at the 3 next season, but he is certainly capable of playing the 4 in a small lineup. Depth inside would be the reason we might not ask him to do that.

Buford almost certainly would have started for us at the 4 this year if Thomas wasn't eligible, and Buford was. Personally, I don't think he is skilled enough YET to start at the 3 for a good team.

Listen folks... 4's are guards in this offense most of the time. They just have to guard 4's on defense.

This year is a tad different with Spangler and Thomas. Both can play on the block.

Assuming Buddy leaves early as many in the know have suggested, I think Buford steps in very nicely for Buddy in the lineup next season as a true 3.

I think Buford will mostly play a 3. Looks like Kruger would like to go 10 deep and he will need a sixth guard/wing. He will have 4 inside players with Spangler being the shortest. I don't think Buddy will be gone but if he is then Buford will certainly play outside.

I am always a little skeptical about highly regarded players who are yet to see the court, but we have a lot of experience of Kruger starting freshmen.

Buford will be a little different than most freshmen. Hopefully he makes his grades and gets to practice with the team beginning in the next couple of weeks or so until the end of the season. Not many highly regarded recruits redshirt their 1st year. It should allow him to adapt to the rigors of D1 ball while learning the system, thus giving him a head-start for next season.

Went to NJCAA.org to see how his season was going. Compiled it into an excel sheet. Definitely looks like he is still splitting some time, but have to like his rebound and block averages of 8.3 and 2.2. Getting 3.3 offensive boards a game is nice as well. Shooting 57%, but only 63% from the stripe. Averaging 9.4 points on only 5.7 shots a game.

Gotta like the game where he logged 1 minute and dropped 11pts and 3 rebounds!

Avg. 19 mins a game... Id say thats pretty good.
