Marquette vs. Syracuse: Effect on hiring Buzz

Was that really a back court violation at the end of the game. I did not think it was a violation on an inbounds pass

Yep. He controlled the ball in the front court and then stepped on the line. If he had let the pass go into the backcourt before touching it, he would have been fine. It was a mental error in the heat of the moment and it proved to be costly for the Cuse.

Back on topic, I agree that this could really hurt our chances of getting Buzz. Forget the price increase now that's Marquette is in the Sweet Sixteen. The emotions of two great wins will likely make it really hard for him to leave the returning players on his team now.

OU > Marquette over the long haul

If OU wants Buzz, I don't think he says no if the money is there.

Why because nobody has ever left a team that went to the Sweet 16 that year? I can list you a number of coaches that did just that in recent years. Some of them didn't work out.

And it wasn't too many years ago OU men's basketball was in the black. Hire a good coach, and it'll get back to that.

There is no such thing as "football money."

At least, not that I've ever heard. Our athletic department is just that, a department. If there is money in the department for Buzz, I feel like we should offer it.

At OU, all money is football money.

Marquette is a more profitable basketball program, much more. They also spend more than every school in the nation except Duke. They can pay Buzz more than OU if they choose to unless OU decides to dip into their pockets that's aren't allocated for bball. On top of that, once the 2010-2011 bball budget comes out, OU will have lost money. OUr bball program doesn't have it's own money and MU's does.

If we limited each sport to its own revenue we would not have our current coaches for baseball, softball or women's basketball. All of those sports lose money. We can afford to lose money on basketball to a few years until we recover.

We are going to hire a "up & comer" because we are cheap. We deserve mediocrity if we aren't willing to spend the cash

I'm afraid this is going to be the case. Please prove me wrong, Joe C.

After reading/watching some of Buzz's articles/clips, I think he doesn't come to Norman out of loyalty to Marquette for giving him this job. He is grateful, humble, and down right kind all the way around. I'd love to have him in Norman, but I think his loyalty will be the deciding factor which, has nothing to do with a checkbook.

it was not a backcourt violation, it was a horrendous call. the player's first foot to land after jumping to secure the ball was on the line, thus establishing position in the backcourt.

i have no opinion on a traveling violation, i didn't pay any attention to that possibility.

gotta get buzz.
