McGusty Transferring

Glad he left and anyone else who is a whiny self serving player PLEASE leave now. I would rather be 10th and lose all our games but have a team who didn’t have the “I” there. Bunch of selfish players.

McGusty was a big HUGE black hole, when he got it he was going to shoot it. Bad player

I was not referring to Shep's effort. He always gave good effort. He is just a
mid-major player. He is a great kid, just not what we need at point

Leopard.....You are the total bomb. Thanks for setting the record straight. Your insights are always welcome because you speak truth.

SO after reading all this garbage...at least one person has heard that every player on the roster may still transfer. Got it.

WTF would CJ or Odomes transfer??? They will be effin seniors next year with TONS of playing time!! I also don't see Manek as a possibility...he will be fine. IF Doolittle was ever going to do it...he would have done it with the suspension...don't see him wanting to now go sit out a FULL year after he just had to sit a semester.

IMO, if anyone should it would be Lazenby...and maybe Freeman. I just don't see a lot of PT for Lazenby and Freeman was non-existent this year. I do feel he can shoot the ball though..and still has upside.

If we can add Trice and 1-2 grad transfers that can play (like Kendall Smith at osu), with Bienemy & Kur...we could field a solid team because I do think with all these changes, you will see A LOT more defensive effort next year.

If Shepherd isn’t a P5 player, What is lazenby? NAIA?

I don't think anyone said they've heard everyone is transferring, instead, you've seen one crazy poster who says everyone should leave.

Reality is, I've heard of 1 more potential transfer but it wouldn't be an actual transfer, more of a just not playing next year.

As for the rest, I'd like to see who we add. I think we can be a decent team (similar to this year's team record wise) if we add a couple good JUCOs/grad transfers due to the experience we'll have.

Kam had 3 assists in Big12 play. 5 less than Jumani.

For those lamenting his leaving - McGusty was all about getting his own. People are crying for team ball well him transferring is a big step towards that happening. Talent means nothing if the player doesn’t buy in because it won’t translate into wins - I thought we learned that during the TMG, Tiny and WW era.

Freeman isn’t a high D1 player nor was Shepard, OU should be able to recruit at a much higher level then these guys. You see teams like Nevada full of transfers playing at a high level - no reason why OU can’t do the same but we need to bring in the right guys and the staff has to stop missing and throwing out low major offers because their track record isn’t so hot right now.

Bingo

That’s an unbelievable stat. I had no idea. Can you say “black hole”?

Some of us have been posted about it for some time. McGusty was ball dominant and was always looking for his own shot. A ball stopper doesn't work in the 4 players out offense that OU has been running for the past couple of years.

lol

Lack of assists from a SG doesn't necessarily mean he is a ball hog, or wasn't passing the ball. It just means he wasn't CREATING baskets for teammates. And that really isn't his game, so it doesn't surprise me. McGusty's shots per minute played isn't all that different than James. And on the season, James averaged about 1 more assist per game than McGusty. One. While playing 12 more minutes per game. You guys are reaching here.

Shots per 40

Young 22
McGusty 14
Manek 14
James 12
Odomes 10
McNeace 10

McGusty should be our #2 guy

McGusty was the ultimate black hole because he wasn’t a willing passer. Number of shots doesn’t tell the whole story. James is a black hole too.

You're forgetting Jamuni as well, but at least he has a high shooting percentage to fall back on.

Kam may not have been at a "Carmelo" level black hole in that the offense didn't necessarily come to a standstill when he got the ball. But, when he had it in his mind to create, he danced and dribbled to create just for himself - not to create an opportunity for someone else. (He could do one helluva dribble while not going anywhere.)

I challenge anyone to find another wing/PG/SG (having similar minutes) create fewer opportunities for his team. Heck, a wing should at least get an assist per game by accident.

My lasting image of him will likely be on the end of a fastbreak charging into someone.

McGusty had a down year, just like almost every other player besides Jamuni, CJ, manek. He also dealt with some serious personal, off the court issues. People downplay this but he was our most talented player returning.

Is it the end of the program? Not even close, but this one hurts badly for the near term.We are going to be a dumpster fire next season. I will still cheer them on but it is going to suck watching them rack up another 20 loss season.

I don't think he is a black hole and I don't blame him for the low assists numbers much.

Our offense was have trae dish it and if the shot wasn't open, pass it back out to trae. I don't think mcgusty shot too much. I'd be interested in seeing assist numbers for all our wing players. I bet they are all lower than you would like
