McGusty Transferring

You normally have good info, but it's been reported that OU (LK) met with McGusty and his parents on Saturday, and tried to convince him to stay.

So yeah. OU isn't good enough to run off top 40 type kids (recruiting), even after two mediocre years. This past year was a lost season, as nobody improved from the PY except maybe McNeace.
Do you think he would still be rated Top 50 in his class now?

I cannot see where anyone would think McGusty is a top 40 talent. There are so many
guards in the Big XII that I would take over McGusty it is not even funny. Mistakes
are made in recruiting. You cannot always see attitude and defensive effort in high
school and AAU. And before you ask I am not an excuse maker for Kruger. I have
been disappointed in our evaluation of certain players over the years and wondered
why in the hell we recruited them.

Let's get something straight. McGusty never played a lick of defense and his attitude
sucked since he has been here. They did not ask him to stay when he asked for his
release. Jordan was a good kid but was not going to be the point guard next year.
They were both told OU was going to bring in other players to take their spots and it
was up to them if they wanted to stay or go. The team is looking for more hardnosed
kids to play for Oklahoma, kids that want to play tough and improve, not just be happy
that they are at Oklahoma. This is not a team imploding, it is a team that the coaches
are tired of having to coddle and this is the result. Look for at least one more to go.

Glad to see you back.

Well, according to 247, he had offers from Indiana, Louisville, Baylor, TT, Auburn, and Texas. So if OU just whiffed on their evaluation, so did several other schools.

Because of transfers and depending on who we bring in, I hope that we at least attempt to run more of the offense next year through McNease....a hybrid Bill Self philosophy (inside-out). Since it's Kruger, I suspect that we will still want to run quite a bit.

From an overall perspective, if we get a PG who can adequately QB the offense (instead of having to be everything like TY), then I believe slowing down the pace a tad and incorporating more movement and screens may help our defense (specifically transition D) on the flip-side. And of further importance, guys are going to have improve outside shooting significantly or we bring in new guys that can shoot. If this happens, this team will be fine. We all saw glimpses of what this team can be when the effort was there. Now that a few guys have left, I'm hoping the sum of the parts (chemistry) makes us more complete.....but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks, Leopard. We're all confused and frustrated at this point (I am, at least), and it's great to have an additional source of inside info. Much appreciated.

Thanks Leopard. Nothing against anyone else, I appreciate your thoughts, but when Leopard speaks, he is usually right on. Glad your back. Been content to just lurk for a while?

Doolittle won't be going anywhere. Freeman, Odomes, Polla, are all options to move. Some rumblings about Manek as well, but I think he stays.

If Odomes and Manek leave, coach has to go

Too unstable of a program

lol

Of course not. Doesn't mean that is all on him though. I still see the potential.
Just checking how far you would go. Someone on LTs made a Durant comparison and all-star predictions within 2 years for TY. You never know.

+1 When ouleopard speaks, I listen.

Glad you’re back, Leopard!

Nothing against him, but he's regurgitating some of the very same things already said. Surprise! The eyes usually don't deceive, as it was apparent to all that McGusty did not put forth the proper effort on defense, and more than not, had a look on his face as if his birthday bash was cancelled.

Manek? Wtf. Why on earth? He won't find a better role anywhere else.. would get coached better elsewhere and his team as a whole then could be better with real coaching, but his role is as big as it could be for the freshman

i don't think manek is going any where .. but he would have every reason to be annoyed that he didn't stay as the starter

He was a true freshmen and with this his expectations likely include something called perspective. He saw the team was losing and he also saw how his shooting percentage was night and day between home and away games. To think that some changes would not be made would have been unrealistic.

You understand that happens all of the time right?? Geez

Because he came off the bench? He didn't like that?

He was mad in Australia when he didn't start because CJ had worked on his body and game. Kam thought he was going to be a star and he wasn't even a starter. He never played D and couldn't pass the ball.

I haven't heard anything about Doolittle.

There is the possibility that one or two more leave though.

I’ve heard about 1 more that hasn’t been announced, but it’s also not so much of a transfer as it is just leaving.

That sounds like Freeman or Polla. They could go home and play without transferring.
