This is kind of a cheesy thread, but I'll post it anyway because times are slow for OU basketball information.
My wife and I went to OKC last week with 2 of our 4 grandsons (ages 9 & 5). The oldest is a big OU fan and is very active in sports. He knows all the players and numbers (basketball and football) ..... college and pros. The youngest likes sports and just wants to do what his big brother does.
We had arranged for a tour of the Switzer Center later in the afternoon (had a connection.....) and it was awesome because Merv Johnson spent 2 hours with us and showed us everything. We even got to go in Bob Stoops office and see all the rings. Merv was great.
The highlight of the day for my oldest grandson was earlier in the day when we drove by the Lloyd Noble arena about noon. We pulled in the parking lot and visited with a GA for a couple of minutes (nice kid... think he works as men's strength GA.... was at UT last year). He told us what door we could probably get in to see the court (the practice courts were getting refinished).
We walked down the tunnel and could see the main court and someone was out there shooting. We went further and saw that it was Buddy. He walked over to us and introduced himself. We were the only ones in the arena. He was very gracious and outgoing, and couldn't have been more polite. He answered every question with a "Yes sir" or "No sir". He couldn't have been nicer and would have made his parents/coaches proud.
He volunteered to pose for a picture with the boys, and before we left he let the oldest take some shots while he rebounded for him. My grandson was nervous and missed 4-5 shots before he just hit a layup. Buddy wouldn't let him quit until he made an outside shot.
Buddy is a great guy and just made our grandson's day. I just thought I would pass it on. We're all definitely fans of Buddy now (already were).
