Most of these, I saw, but they're all great to recall.
Of course, the most memorable one for us Sooner freshmen in '77 was the game that year around Feb. 1. It was the first-ever LNC sellout, and OU pulled off a miraculous rally to win it, 66-63.
But, the one the year before, in front of a pretty good crowd on a Saturday night, was amazing in other ways. The '76 OU team was woefully small and inexperienced, yet they whipped a nationally ranked MU team that was an overtime away from the Final Four later that season. OU won by 11, and as I recall, never trailed in the game. Still have a mental picture of freshman John McCullough getting open all night on the baseline for easy jumpers.
The game in my senior year, February of '80, was fun in that OU took out the overhyped Steve Stipanovich and Co. It was also a game that typified Big 8 officiating - they let Norm Stewart take forever to make substitutions after his players fouled out trying to cut in the OU lead by fouling to stop the clock.
I had to miss it, but the game in '87 was great because OU won it on a last-second shot by Tim McCalister. I really enjoyed the '88 game when OU destroyed the preseason Big 8 favorites (OU was picked a distant third). Stacey King went for 40 that day, and Tony Martin just posterized a Mizzou guard named Lee Coward late in the game on a fast break dunk of the "windmill" variety.
Maybe the wildest one of all, though, happened when I was living in Albuquerque the first time. That was the "no matter how terrible the officiating is" game in '89. I remember that OU got down something like 22-5 before roaring back after the "T" on Billy Tubbs. I still have that one on VHS, and I'm SO glad I taped it while at a game in Albuquerque that night.
The game in '90 was also great because OU blasted the No. 1-ranked Tigers (then followed it up by crushing the hated Beakers, who had just ascended to No. 1). I still have both of those games on VHS.
My last OU-MU game to see in person was in Blake Griffin's freshman year. That was a really good game, on a really cold day, and it was my only chance to see the guys play live that year.
