Monmouth up 27-19 with 8 minutes left in the first half. Beak on the bench with 2 fouls.

Georgetown has really fell on hard times with the younger thompson...they are in a huge NBA arena with maybe 3,000 people there

Is Jelon playing a larger role at Monmouth than he would have at OU? I've sort of had the idea he was a sixth man there, too -- is that accurate?

Monmouth won the game 83-68. Former OU player, Je'lon Hornbeak, had 18 points, 5 rebs, 3 assists and 1 steal. He was 1-8 from the field (1 of 4 from three). But in typical Hornbeak fashion, he was 15 of 16 from the free throw line.

That's now UCLA, Notre Dame, & Georgetown that they've knocked off. I've seen worse resumes' for mid-majors.

I love watching them lose! They are overrated every year come march.

It is laughable that Thompson had that job. Nepotism. It the media says nothing.

He's shooting 97% on FTs this year, that's incredible.

They also lost to USC. Not sure why they played them twice. Their other losses were to Dayton (7-2) and Canisius (3-6).

It happens once in while when teams are on the regular schedule and in the same tournament. Texas played Washington twice this season. OU played UNLV twice in the 87 season and the 89 season. (OU was 4-1 against UNLV from 87-90, we have a great basketball tradition. I really wish more OU alums understood this.)

OSU played Long Beach State twice in a matter of days this year.

OsU and Monmouth played their duplicate opponents in tournaments after already having them on their regular schedule.

In his four years as head coach at Princeton, he made the NCAA tournament twice and shared the conference title three times.

Did that make him the best candidate for the Georgetown job? Maybe not, but it's not as if he were completely unqualified.

Did his name play a huge role in getting that job? Sure.

But it's not as Little John inherited a juggernaut and plunged it into mediocrity. In five and a half seasons, Big John's successor (Escherick) made the NCAA tourney once and never won 20 games outside of that one season. JT III has made the tourney eight times in 11 seasons.

I understand the knock on Little John's lack of postseason success, but in Big John's last nine seasons, Georgetown made the tourney seven times and only advanced past the second round twice.

Georgetown is a good job, but no one is bringing back their 1980s dominance. Big John couldn't replicate it in the 1990s. It's also not as though anyone can win there, as evidenced by the futility of the Escherick era.

It always bugs me when some OU fans say things like making the tournament every year and winning 20 games is not big deal. It is a big deal. It is hard to be that consistent and the coached that do it are both rare and special.

How about eight NCAA tourneys/20-win seasons in ten years, including a Final Four?

I'm not saying JT III is an all-time great or anything, but let's not act as if he's Georgetown's version of Sean Sutton.

I think OSU fans now would take Sean Sutton(w/o the drug issues) over Travis Ford.

I don't think the drug issues would matter enough to make them stick with Ford. But it's nice that Sean got some help.
