The reasoning from Seth Davis and Jim Calhoun this morning was "Michigan State plays defense". What? Oklahoma doesn't play defense?

They clearly haven't watched enough of OU to make that statement. OU is a very good defensive team.

Perhaps what they mean is that Michigan State has played offense well all season, so when their defense steps up like it has, they're very good.

Which I can't really fault. But if OU's offense steps up, I don't think it matters what MSU throws at them.

Michigan State is a slight favorite because they played much better competition. The Big XII was so weak we really don't know what OU has.

But this is not your usual mighty MSU team. We've got a 50-50 shot.

I'd give MSU the edge, in part, b/c of Izzo.

Not saying OU can't or won't win. I think the game is pretty close to a toss up, with the team that simply shoots it the best probably winning.

The big 10 was so much better than the big 12 this year? Really?

I think Kruger, his coaches and players have heard enough of the Izzo fawning to puke.

Our boys are gonna take this one tonite.......

OU 63

MSU 58

Weak may be a stretch. You were certainly right that the bigXII was over rated but teams like Iowa St and Baylor bowing out early in the dance does not discredit their entire season. Remember the big 12 was dominant outside of conference play. It's the tourney. Ish happens.

It wasn't just ISU and Baylor. It was KU too. And OSU. And UT.

When 5 of 7 teams lose games they were favored in, or that were toss ups, that shows a problem.

Big 12 was overrated. I think everybody agrees wtih that. And maybe the big 12 was even underrated. But that doesn't mean that the big 10 was a betteer or deeper conference.

Both conferences started with 7 teams in. By the end of today, both conferences will only have 1 team left standing

Iowa State and Baylor were flukes. The rest were pretty much expected. I don't think anyone thought the Big 12 had the best teams at the top, it was just a deep league.

That said, outside of Wisconsin, the Big 10 wasn't good at the top, either. It was also a pretty deep league. It also had pretty similar results.

Even if you are right that the Big 12 is overrated. It wasn't worse than the Big 10. Fact is the Big 12 was a deep conference with about 9 teams that would have competed in the Big 10 and one team that wouldn't have. TCU would have had a shot at making the NCAA Tournament in the Big 10.

Michigan State had one win over a team that was ranked at that time in the regular season. Where as OU had a 7-7 record against ranked teams. Against Tournament teams OU went 11-6. Michigan State was 7-9 against Tournament teams. Michigan State didn't have a single out of conference win against a team that even made the NIT. Their best win is a team that's in the CBI Final in Loyola(Ill). OU beat UCLA and Butler both teams won in the NCAA Tournament, and OU also had a win against an NIT team something Michigan State didn't have out of conference.

There is no way to say Michigan State faced better competition than OU. I can see you making this argument if Michigan State were in the ACC or even the PAC in some respects. But not that Big 10 which wasn't particularly that great a conference. Wisconsin and Maryland are pretty much the only really consistently good teams in that conference all year. Big 12 had OU, Baylor, ISU, Kansas, WVU that were all consistently good all year. Yes ISU, Baylor and Kansas fell flat in the tournament. But Big 10 had Maryland go out early also.

I won't say this means OU wins and pounds Michigan State for sure. That's not what I mean. This is going to be a hard fought game that could go either way. But saying that Michigan State played a tougher schedule is flat out stupid. If Michigan State played like they did in the regular season with OU's schedule they might have been an NIT team.

For what it's worth..... In Vegas the public money is going on Sparty, which is predictable. The sharps are apparently on the Sooners. Again, take it for what it's worth.

The Big XII had 4 teams seeded in the top 12 of the country and possibly didn't have a single top 15 team. I said all along the league was not strong, it just had parity.

Anyway, none of that matters, if we bring our A game today we have a shot. If we don't and MSU brings the game they brought against Virginia we are toast.

IF our shooting was a bit more consistent then I'd give us the edge. I think we lose in a toss up.
