The Advocate's columnist Scott Rabalais' comments on the Sooners:

"Meanwhile, Oklahoma was handling the uneven bars as though its hands were welded to them. The Sooners scored a 49.5875 on bars, then topped that with a 49.700 on beam as freshman phenom Maggie Nichols got a 10."

“You can’t let them get an edge,” Breaux said of the Sooners. “It’s like blood in the water.”

"But there was no catching Oklahoma as LSU nearly did last year in Fort Worth. The Sooners ran away from everyone with a 198.3875 to complete an unbeaten season and their third NCAA title in the past four years."

"Saturday night, Oklahoma set an almost impossible standard. It was as though the Tigers and the Sooners did a role reversal from their performances in the semifinals. In the semis, it was Oklahoma that scored a 197.725, a fine score but one that had some wobbles, showed some cracks. Even the top Sooner, Nichols, slipped off the balance beam."

"Saturday, the Sooners had equilibrium for the ages. It was a near-textbook performance that allowed Oklahoma to coast to the title on its final event, vault, up about seven-10ths of a point on Florida and a little more on LSU."

“To think we went 197.737, and we’re not excited about that score.” Breaux said. “That was a fabulous score, but we left so much on the floor the team was truly disappointed.”

"the only team that was better than LSU was the very best team in the country. (OU also beat LSU in February.) Even after LSU’s stunning score Friday night, you knew the Sooners would have to be off their game a bit and the Tigers would have to hit again for them to win the title."
