NBA- OU players and general (this thread only)

He didn't get many minutes in game 6, but they should have played him more.
You may be right, but I did see him miss three wide-open looks. He didn't look like he had the confidence that he clearly showed tonight. Shaq and Charles can't stop giving him props for his game tonight. Ernie Johnson had an extensive interview with Buddy as well. For those who didn't see it, you missed something special. Buddy's game tonight would have reminded you a little of his game at the Phog in his senior year. Forget Lattin at the free throw line, what I remember most is Dick Vitale yelling "Number 30!? Are you kidding me!? Time to update your Mock Draft Chad Ford! He's way better than that!"

Absolutely, he needs rhythm, he is much better than Gary Payton Jr both offensively and defensively. I am not sure why the Warriors can't figure that out. If Gary Payton Jr wasn't sick who knows how many minutes Buddy gets. I thought the Thunder should have signed him years ago. He would be awesome to watch here in OKC but it just makes too much sense.

I love Buddy to death but don’t think you’d find many NBA people who would remotely agree with your take that he is better defensively than Payton.

LeBron James has donated over $100 million to various organizations supporting education, social justice, and equality. He has also invested millions in community programs, youth sports initiatives, and charitable causes through his LeBron James Family Foundation. His foundation's I PROMISE program in Akron, Ohio, provides support and resources to students in the area, according to the LeBron James Family Foundation.
Here's a more detailed look at how LeBron James has supported his childhood friends:
  • Financial Support:
James has provided financial assistance to his friends through his foundation and other ventures, according to NBA.com.

  • Business Ventures:
He has hired friends like Maverick Carter as his business manager, and they have collaborated on projects like The SpringHill Company.

  • I Promise School:
The I Promise School, located in Akron, Ohio, was established by James and his childhood friends to provide educational opportunities to students in need, according to Andscape.

  • Docuseries:
"More Than an Athlete," an eight-part docuseries on ESPN+, tells the story of James and his friends' journey, including their success and the importance of their friendship.

  • Film "Shooting Stars":
James also produced and stars in the film "Shooting Stars," which explores his relationships with his childhood friends and their impact on his life.
    • More Than a Vote:
A movement that aims to increase voter turnout and combat voter suppression, particularly among Black voters.

    • Social Justice Advocacy:
James has used his platform to speak out against racial injustice, police brutality, and other issues affecting the Black community. He has spoken out about the murders of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, and George Floyd, and has advocated for Black Lives Matter.

    • Financial Contributions:
James has made significant financial contributions to various causes, including the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

    • Support for Educational Institutions:
James has pledged to pay the tuition for students to attend the University of Akron.
This is just from a quick Google search. He also supports many small businesses and sports ventures that were started by people from his community. While he has an air of arrogance, fans say he is one of the most approachable athletes of his stature, and he is known to help common people he meets, with life needs. The woman he saw working for the Memphis Grizzlies, and wearing his shoes every time the Lakers came to town, Lebron reached out to her and paid her daughter's college tuition. When asked why, he said she's working in service for the Grizzlies, probably barely making a living wage, but she's supporting me by buying my shoes. I noticed her several years ago, and I just wanted to show her appreciation.

I don't know if he gives the most, but he gives a lot compared to other celebrities who choose not to give much. For a lot of the kids, the athletes time and willingness to spend time in their environment is bigger than money. When Katrina happened, it was well documented several NBA players gave money, but they also passed out food and clothing in the streets, while others just chose to give, but wanted no parts of walking among the people....
the I promise school was funded by Ohio tax payers

and exec producing docs about yourself is not philanthropy ...... neither is having businesses with your friends ..

It's a public school, so yes, taxpayers fund a good portion of it. LBJ provides free meals, uniforms, and transportation through his Foundation. He also footed the start-up costs.

Philanthropy is the act of donating time, money, or resources to help improve the well-being of others or society as a whole. It's often associated with charitable giving and altruistic efforts aimed at making a positive impact on human welfare and societal well-being.

I’m fully with you on this one. I have never heard anyone, even his critics, question his commitment and efforts in the community. I think his generosity is very well established.

I hear you, brother. I hear a lot of his critics saying he only does it for recognition, and the old tax write-off, etc My question to them is, why don't more athletes/entertainers do it, and don't all millionaires/billionaires use charity for a tax write-off? Obviously, none of us knows the motives these athletes have, but I know a lot of underprivileged people benefit, so that's enough for me.

I don't spend much time defending LBJ the basketball player because I don't put him above MJ or Kobe because of their ability and willingness to finish in the big moments. I do consider him one of the top 3-5 players, and longevity-wise, it's not even close. His understanding of the game is elite, and not many can match him in that department. I'll let this one die now and get back to guys still playing.

Denver just shocked OKC. Playoff basketball is so different than regular season basketball. It will be interesting to see the adjustments....

I might add Gordon's three-pointer broke a tie I was in on Draftkings, in their big $1 entry NBA tournament. I finished 2nd and won a cool $600 on a $1 ticket. Not a bad night!!! I hit for $150 a few nights ago on a 25cent baseball ticket.

Just a wild game in OKC. I’m the biggest proponent of the “foul up three” strategy on the planet, but I’ve never seen it used that early, especially in the NBA, where you pretty much knew Denver would make all their free throws and keep the pressure on. Denver got what they wanted when they were able to force the ball to anyone other than SGA on the final SLOB.

Thunder's defense is their downfall they give up way too many points lately and just cannot defend when it matters. They played pretty solid offensively for the most part. Wouldn't shock me one bit if Nuggets win that series in 5. The Rockets scoring 125 a couple weeks ago should have been a red flag.

They have the best defense in the league. A meaningless regular season game a month ago isn’t much to worry about.

lots of athletes do it and much more they just don't' feel the need to put out a press release every single time ..
