NCAA Tourney Thread

He's in Boston, having a career much like Ed Najera's, just a little bit better.

I think the point that you don't need highly rated high school guys still applies, however. I don't think any of those Maryland guys were all that highly recruited (even with Frank Martin's cheating to get Steve Blake), for instance. But you have to either luck into that talent or develop it.

That was also a very senior laden team and if I am not mistake the only champ in 25 years without a Burger Boy but they did have 3 future NBAers

With the parity we are seeing these days, it's only a matter of time before you see a team with no true NBA guys win a NC.

I've also argued that it's a little bit of the chicken/egg argument. Some of those guys get drafted, IMO, b/c they win a NC. It's not like every NC winner has guys that get drafted in the 1st, and end up NBA starters.

Remember the stiff from Bradley that got drafted high mostly because he was 7'0 tall and his team went far in the Tournament? I don't think he ever did anything in the NBA. So year running good in the Tournament helps some guys. I will agree that future NBA stars will give you a big heads up.

That Bradley team made the sweet 16, is that going "far into the tournament"?

And the number of 7 footers who were over drafted is too long to try and list

And OU's best team was easily the 1988 team IMO and that team had 3 guys who had long NBA careers

That's true. I mean, OU has been close. 2002 was really close and I think would have won if Hollis was a little bigger (which, not coincidentally would have given him a long NBA career) and Ace and Quannas were a little bit better.

'09 was really close too. There's not a lot of difference between that team and Syracuse's '03 team, but think about it, if you replace anyone on that '09 team with Hakeem Warrick, OU is a one seed and right there with UNC.

It may happen because a team has a large group of seniors, see Miami this year.

I know that '03 team made the Elite 8, but I never had a good feeling about that team. I think that OU team was the third best in the the Big 12 that year.

The '08 team with Griffin may have been one of the top 3 teams but they unfortunately ran into the best in the Elite 8 game. Granted that team had the best player in the nation and by a good margin

FGCU is the real deal.

I hope they knock SDSU's d!ck in the dirt in this second half.

To their credit SDSU does look better than I thought they would.

I wouldn't doubt it. It's bound to happen at some point even if through freak accident.

I somewhat agree with the second point, but most of these guys stick in the league for awhile. Because it sort of is like every NC winner has guys drafted in the first round and end up either NBA starters or long time role guys. You have to go pretty far back to find a champion that didn't have that type of talent.

Let's start from '89

Rice
L. Johnson
Laettner/Hill
Montross/Lynch
Williamson
O'Bannon
Walker
Bibby
Mohammed/Magloire
Hamilton
Peterson/Richardson
Battier/Boozer
Dixon/Blake/Wilcox
Anthony
Gordon/Okafor
Felton/Williams
Noah/Horford
Aldrich/Rush/Chalmers
Lawson/Hansbrough
Plumlee/Singler
Walker/Lamb
and Kentucky's entire team.

LOL this 6 pt outburst from FGCU is pure awesomeness

Comer with some amazing passes and footwork!! He's got a great bball IQ.

This FGCU point guard is awesome.

Their entire team runs the break beautifully. Excellent spacing. I know they do it well b/c it's such a big part of their game, but dang, be nice to see OU break like that.

That last break before the SDSU timeout he had three guys he could've passed to for open shots they might have made. So he somehow found the fourth guy who was offscreen and got an easy layup. Really pretty stuff. They're playing out of their minds.

well, it's all starting with Comer as he won't let the aztecs stop the ball on the break. even when they don't have the numbers he gets it to the hole and finds someone. the kid is crafty. he gets around.

Let me back what others have said, Comer has been great and has dictated the second half completely

Guard play.

Neither one of these teams has a post player that is much of an offensive threat, unless it's on a dump down, or an oop, something of that nature. They are athletic, they rebound, and they defend. On offense, it's about the guards. It's why I don't care if OU ever recruits a Randle or whomever. Give me some good guards, and let's go play ball. OU is moving in that direction. Maybe take another year or so, but we're on the right path. Would love to add some guys like Harris/Trier/Melton in the next few years.

FGCU is the real deal and fun to watch. Not sure we would have matched up too well with their athleticism.

With that said, I wish we would have had this officiating crew during our game with SDSU.

I'm lovin' this game! Nothing against SDSU. It's just that Beach Front U is my new favorite team to make it to the final four.

Those FGCU guys. Sure would like to see them whoop some Gators and Jayhawks. That would be awesome.
