Needed....new football coach!!

I’d say maybe we should all pump the brakes a bit on any sweeping conclusions one way or the other, both as far as the football and basketball teams. I think our defense (and offense, for that matter) lacked physicality and consistent effort. Some of that certainly falls on position coaches, but the head coach and defensive coordinator also play a huge part in establishing that culture. If they aren’t demanding in those areas, there is only so much a position coach can do.

As for the basketball team, it seems premature to say this year’s team would “kick the crap” out of last year’s team. Last year’s team was in the top 10 in early February and had picked off a lot of highly ranked teams. This year’s squad is coming off a big win over a solid Florida team, and I’m incredibly excited about our potential. But we also have had a few games where you can see that offense may be a struggle against good teams, and we don’t have anyone who can create like Reaves could.

I’m confident we are going to end up with a great coaching staff, I just wish a few more of the commits hadn’t jumped ship because we had a couple great classes lined up.

Maybe so. I just like this years team better. Great classes for TBOW standards. They werent built for BV.

Gotta let the coach get his guys. If he fails, he did it his way and not with Tbow.

I agree. I also think BV has a plan and knows who he wants to hire. Nothing against any current OU coaches, but Brent has his guys and he’s going to build the defensive staff the way he wants. I think we’ll be very happy with the guys he chooses.

Looks like schmitty is coming back for S&C to whip this team back into shape.

Jerry Schmitt and Jeff Lebby are back

I'm afraid that LR also left behind at least two years of not so good seasons

nah

like stoops has been saying...we are in a lot better shape NOW than we were in 99.

There is still enough talent to win the big 12 next year

The football team incrementally declined the 5 years Riley was the coach.

i will be shocked if OU wins any thing less than 10 games next season

Hard to say since we don't know who will be on the team. If Caleb Williams decides to depart, many others could follow.

OU will be fine if Caleb decides to leave. Dillon Gabriel (UCF) is tied to the hip with Lebby. Lebby recruited him to UCF, and Gabriel was planning to transfer to Ole Miss to join him there this offseason. As long as Lebby has an open starting QB spot, Gabriel will join him there.

I don't know that Gabriel's ceiling is as high as Caleb's but my primary point is that if CW leaves, there's a good chance that other key players might move on as well.

My concern is not long term, but short. I don't think we can withstand many more player departures and decommits entering next season.
